책 are set in the 90s.
I did read somewhere that the 영화 are set around 10 years later, but I can't remember where, don't know how correct that is, and don't really care, to be honest. I don't think it really makes that much difference.

Since Harry was born in 1980, I think, then the 책 began at 1991.

Then Snape died during the Hogwarts battle seven years later.

He starts Hogwarts in September 1991, and the series ends (not counting the epilouge) in the early summer of 1998.

Yes, the 책 are written as if we're still in the 90's - sort of. JK used this technique that my Creative 글쓰기 teacher called "timeless setting." It's when 당신 don't give many indications of the time period your story is set.

I think the 영화 followed this technique too. I mean, there really isn't much indication to say it took place ten years 이전 (at least, from and American's point of view - I don't know too much about British fashion, both in the 90's through today).

Yes. I'm pretty sure the 책 start in 1991 and they end in 1998.
