I dropped Robin onto the rooftop of the building he had directed me to. He was right about the radio waves being very weak, Aqualad had tried to call him 5 miles away from the place and we could barely hear him. I sat 다음 to him near the edge. "So what do 당신 want to know?"
"Anything- no, everything!"
"You're going to have to define everything, Dick."
"There! Right there! First question! How do 당신 know who I am?"
I shook my head. Instead of giving him an answer I simply pulled out the picture of my parents and handed it to him. While he was looking at it, I changed us from our costumes to our civie clothing. Once he was done studying it, he glanced up and looked at my sunglasses with his. "Where did 당신 get this?"
"I think 당신 know, Dick," He watched off in the distance, where the lights of the city reflected in the waters of the bay.
"I thought 당신 were dead," he whispered sullenly. "I never found 당신 after that night. No one could, not even the police. Not even Bruce. Or, 당신 know, Batman. I-I just couldn't stand the fact of me being the only one left. Where did 당신 go? What happened to you?"
I looked down towards the cars driving past. I'm not in the mood to actually, well, say it, I told him telepathically. However, I will gladly think it.
That night was the worst night of my life. My parents were dead, and even 더 많이 horrible, I couldn't find 당신 after they fell. The police had already taken 당신 downtown. I cried for hours. I had no idea where I was going to go. But... Slade found me. He took me away from it all. I never told him who I was, though. Never showed him my face. I dyed my hair reddish brown, and he told me he could protect me, give me things I'd never dreamed of having. He was right.
Slade was an experimentalist. He loved to play around with chemicals and DNA. So when he asked me if I'd ever wanted to fly, I had no idea he could actually make it happen. It was extremely painful. But it worked. He continued to experiment on me, always reassuring me that it would be over soon. It never was. It was like a never ending flame, burning my body. I told him this. It was my biggest mistake, and my greatest accomplishment.
That's how he got the idea for my powers of flame. He messed up the first time- that's why I have to deal with the twenty feet thing. But the 초 time, the literal meaning came into effect. I could now control fire.
He felt that I was ready to help him now, and since I owed him everything, I agreed to 가입하기 him. That's why I'm here now. I guess 당신 could say he was like a father to me. But he was a devil. So in context, I guess 당신 could say I'm the devil's daughter.
That was it. I let my now smokey hair fall down into my face and let the tears fall faster. I hadn't admitted to any of this in so long. It was nice to finally talk to someone about it. I felt an arm around my shoulder, and looking up, Dick pulled off my glasses. His were off as well. I curled up in his arms. "I've missed 당신 so much, Kyra," he whispered.
"I missed 당신 too, Dick,"
We sat there until we fell asleep, and the deep of the night engulfed us, the Gemini constellation burning in the sky.
But we had no idea we were being watched.
