Why does everyone like these books? They are TERRIBLY written

Well, I agree with you, they're not really well written and the story is sometimes too predictable.
Nevertheless, 당신 should understand that most people don't really care for the 글쓰기 but for the story itself and the story is entertaining, misterious and funny sometimes.
In any case, Stephenie Meyer used a lot of the ancient vampire myths to create these new improved modern 뱀파이어 that we see in Twilight now. That is, in my opinion, the most appealing side of these books.
The fact that it includes a 사랑 story between someone perfectly normal (Bella) that we can all in certain levels relate to and a supposedly perfect in any ways vampire (Edward) is certainly what made a lot of people read these books.
The perfect 사랑 between these too, that is so bad it is good, is what keeps almost everyone hooked with this story. We see all this world through Bella's eyes, which is also the reason why we don't really see Edward's imperfections, and we can relate to her story because she's normal, she lives in a normal place, she has normal 프렌즈 until something unusual happens to her, which could happen to all of us.
So I guess that those are the reasons why most people 사랑 Twilight even though, in my opinion, it is terribly written, like 당신 said.

First off, I'd like to say that I absolutely HATE it when people put things like this on a Twilight fansite. Notice the byline: "A fanspot of the 책 Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn." This is not an appropriate 질문 for this spot.

Secondly, I loved the 책 더 많이 than anything I've ever read, and this guestion's answer, to me, seems very obvious. I know it might not be that way to others.

Then why are 당신 on this channel? Twilight is a great book and Stepenie Meyer is a great author.

I teach English Lit, and every time one of my students makes a bold statement like this one, "terribly written," I always ask them to support their argument with evidence.

What do 당신 mean 의해 that exactly? If it is because it's written in everyday English, I actually think that's wonderful, given the fact that they're 책 for young adults.

Based on my experience, the 더 많이 accessible the language is in a novel, the better it is (with the exception of the very honorable Edgar Allan Poe, of course). Who wants to struggle while 읽기 for fun, anyway??

Now, if you're referring to the story structure AND character development, I do acknowledge that 당신 have a somewhat valid point there, but I wouldn't go as far as calling it terrible.

In Twilight, for instance, the antagonists (Victoria, Laurent and James) are brought in way too late into the story, and it's obvious that they're only introduced to create the final climax confrontation.

Also, something that really bothers me is that Jacob is used as an informational device and not much else when he first meets Bella. His character is poorly developed in Twilight, but this all changes in New Moon.

So, if these are the issues you're referring to when saying "terribly written," I partially agree, but, again, I wouldn't call it terrible.

I'd call it a lack of storytelling skills maybe, but keep in mind it's her first book series, so give the lady a break, why don't ya?

When 당신 criticize a work so harshly, 당신 better have some compelling and SPECIFIC evidence to back up your claims.

To sum it up, the story might be a bit cliche and predictable, but it's a PAGE TURNER, and the characters are very likable. They really stay with you.

In the end, no author's work is ever flawless. Heck, even Shakespeare had the problem plays, so my humble suggestion is only criticize something this harshly if 당신 can prove 당신 can do better. Let's see 당신 write a 4-book saga better than Stephenie.

People like it because Bella is basically a place holder for every teenage girl 읽기 so she can imagine what it's like to be with Edward Cullen... that's the main appeal.
As for the terribly written bit, totally agree with 당신 on that point. Stephanie Meyer has used countless examples of link, her grammar is atrocious and she's admitted to having done no research. Regardless of what your book is about 당신 need to do research!

That's a bit harsh...but my friend shares your view. I think it's a unique and modern take on the whole vampire deal, and it makes the 뱀파이어 unique. I agree, though, that it could have been better written.

Well that's your opinion, but other people (including myself) enjoy the books, they have a brilliant plot and likeable characters.....okay they may not be the best book ever but still they make 당신 want to keep 읽기 which I think is the most important part!=D Perhaps, if 당신 haven't read them go to your local 도서관, 라이브러리 and at least TRY Twilight...by the way if 당신 think they're terribly written why post such a 질문 on a spot where the majority of people are FANS?

They aren't the best written i agree, but the thing is that it captures your imagination and makes be believe that anything can happen. It is an escape from our world and it is a get away from my troubles. Plus i am a hopless romantic and i can't help be believe there is true 사랑 so I am completely imbedded in their 사랑 hoping that my 사랑 could be like that and that i will find true love.
Another factor is the 판타지 and the fun in the book, it has a good plot and is very entertaining even though it is not the best written. I hope that explains to 당신 why i 사랑 these books.

So what if they are terribly written they tell a story never the less, and that is worth 읽기 no matter how it is written. A good story teller doesnt need any fansy grammer(as u can see with my grammer "fansy") all they need is a story that everyone is willing to read 또는 listen to and that it appeals to someone in some way. Well, perhaps the the writting isn't wonderful, but it is far from terrible, I think. Of course, every one has a different taste, and 당신 can only talk for yourself. I think that the reason I like the Twilight saga, is because of Stephenie Meyer's very uniqu viewof 뱀파이어 and their society. It's unlike anything else and very original. I like that she has ignorered almost everything 당신 think a vampire is 또는 should be. The only thing she kept is the fact that they drink blood.
Besides, there aren't many vampire/romace stories out there :) They are really hard to find! And when 당신 combine it with teenage love, 당신 have something no one has ever thoght of before.
But as I said to begin with, 읽기 is very subjective. There isn't a book that every one can agree on loving, and that's that.

I don't think that they are terribly written - their not brilliant, and i know lots of 책 (well, LOTS, of books) that are heaps better - and the storyline, in my opinion, is old. not original, but still kind of interesting.
I still think that they're TERRIBLY written. If 당신 compare the way they're written to J.K Rowlings writing......... Need I say more? She can't write. Seriously.

The Twilight series is wonderfully written, and is for people who have IMAGINATIONS!!! If 당신 don't like it, then don't read it!! I for one, 사랑 those books.

First off, i'd like to say that everyone who is simply saying that the 책 are great and that's it are no better than the person who posed a perfectly reasonable 질문 (of course it could have been 더 많이 tactfully asked given that this is a 포럼 for 연인들 of the books). Truthfully i agree with a lot of things that have been said here. The 글쓰기 is far from fantastic and for the most part the story isn't particularly original, boy meets girl, boy likes girl, girl meets another boy and other boy likes girl too. Oldest story in the book right? I understand that to a lot of people the story is engaging and interesting because it's fantastical (and i mean that in the sense that it's a 판타지 not that it's fantastic) and it's just the same as the Harry Potter craze (which in my opinion was 더 많이 deserving of the hype... i've got plenty of reasons for that but i'm not going to get into it here). I do think that the hype is ridiculous. They're not that great.

Well "they are terribly written" isn't a fact, its an opinion, YOUR opinion. I agree they aren't amazingly written but the first one is pretty good particularly and the story really sucks 당신 in! Its all a matter of taste =)

It really bugs me when people say that a book was written badly simply because the majority of words were everyday-type-words and not huge many-lettered-hard-to-pronounce words, and because the sentences were simple plain everyday english rather than fancy complicated sentences. I believe the term that's used for 책 with a complex 글쓰기 style is 'heavy reading'. Not everything has to be heavy, 당신 know. Sometimes it's nice to read something that is written in the same way that the characters would actually SAY them. These 책 are written in Bella's point of view - a modern 17 년 old girl. Would she speak with a sophisticated tongue? No.
So, that's why I'm confused as to your question. Stephenie's 글쓰기 seems perfectly fine to me. It's written how Bella would say it.

I'm not a literature expert I on't even read lots of 책 so I can't 코멘트 on how great written they were.But in 책 it is not just the 글쓰기 takes 당신 in.If the story make 당신 feel good make 당신 feel like 당신 own the story and if 당신 can feel the characters I consider that as a great book.And twilight was just one of those few 책 which felt like mine.

I 사랑 Twilight, I adore it.

Stephenie Meyer has said many times that she isn't an expert at writing, and that Twilgiht came to her in a dream and she just started writting it.
She said "No one was 더 많이 surprised than me that I'd actually finished a book."
She says she never went to writting school, neve took classes, and broke many rules of so called "good writting rules".
Obviously this isn't true.
BECAUSE her 책 broke the rules is one of the many reasons why they're so loved.

They are terribly written on an 8th grade level however when I was 읽기 them I couldn't put it down for some reason.

Because they do. Why do people play sports? because they like to. i totally disagree that they are badly written. i have never read anything that gripped me so much. and i agree with however came up with th 코멘트 that people don't want to read the book they want to crawl inside and live there. i only know one book that did that to me and that was hp and talking about that i think that in Hp the 책 grow up in better 글쓰기 style as harry does, in twilight it stays at a very steady level which is probaly better because Bella is basically adult for all of the books. I didn't think it was that badly written. I've read better. I like that they are different from other vampire books. I still 사랑 Twilight but its not my favorite. that would be Morganville Vampire series 의해 Rachel Caine. Amazing book.

Tell me this though, HOW 또는 WHY is Twilight terribly written? What makes a good book to 당신 and why is Twilight not it? If 당신 tell me that then I can answer your 질문 fairly.

I will admit that after 읽기 Twilight for like the millionth time, I've noticed a few flaws, such as TWILIGHT is mainly just speech and not too much description, and that may bug people.

I think one of the reasons people like Twilight so much is it's like an alternate reality. Whenever I felt sad 또는 stressed 또는 whatever, when I read The Twilight Saga, I completely forgot about them all and became a part of the story, 당신 know? It's like an escape.

People like the idea of perfection in men and women (the vampires) and to think that they could one 일 find someone like that is comforting.
(I think).

The fact that it's not about ordinary vampires, holy water, stakes etc. none of it works on the Cullens and it's kind of exciting. If you're the kind of person who doesn't like change 또는 something new, then Twilight is not for 당신 but it's nice to try something new.

Then there is 늑대인간 which adds to the tension and the excitement. Sure, there is not many- if any fight scenes in the Saga but that's a new thing too. Usually 뱀파이어 are all like, human kill, blood, blood, blood, kill, me demon, me kill blah blah blah and blah. Again, if you're only into the originals, then this is not for you.

I like Twilight because of the above reasons and I don't mind all the changes and there are 더 많이 reasons.

The grammar in the 책 is not very good, but that's the editors fault not Stephenie's. She made good characters which helps the books. <3

The 책 aren't TERRIBLE, but they aren't the best written, either. Who cares how well it's written? It's a good story that's fun to read.
And for the people who are telling her she's wrong and she's stupid, Shut up. It's her opinion. (:

That is your personal opinion. Some people like the storyline, others...not so much. But 당신 shouldn't be bashing how they're written. In my opinion, they are wonderfully written! I'd like to see someone like 당신 try to beat Stephenie Meyer in a 글쓰기 contest.
