The following will begin as a sad fanfiction. This idea had been inside me for a while, and I just had to let it out now. As I said, parts of this will be very sad, and might seem out of character for me to write, so I ask 당신 to remember two things. One, I live for happy endings, and would never leave a story of mine without one. Two, I would never, ever, leave the Beatles without the happiness they deserve. Please remember this disclaimer as I continue to write this fanfiction.
We begin our story in early March, 1981.
Chapter One
It had been nearly three months now, and Paul still missed John everyday.
Yes, he tried to occupy himself with other things. He still had his 음악 and his family to distract himself with, but in everything he did, there was something to remind him of John. The way John would have played around with whatever Paul happened to be doing, how he would give a mischievous grin and make fun of things, how he would have helped Paul finish the songs he was writing. Thoughts of John would creep up on him at the most unexpected times, and then Paul would have to fight himself not to cry.
Paul had even tried 글쓰기 a song for John, hoping that letting it all out into his craft would ease the pain somewhat. The song had come out beautifully, but the pain was still there, as strong as ever. The first time Paul tried performing his song live, he had gotten so caught up in the feelings that the tears came, his voice caught on stage for the first time ever, and he was left standing there with tears silently running down his face, unable to finish the song.
His audience understood. Most of them were Beatles 팬 and so 팬 of John. A good many of them had started crying, too. But the whole thing had still been very uncomfortable. Paul had never cried onstage, in front of his fans, before. Still, at least they understood what he was going through. Many a reporter had approached Paul within the past three months, asking him some ridiculous 질문 about what he’d thought of John being depressed about such-and-such, not listening when Paul tried to tell them about the always-smiling, always-cheerful friend he remembered. People were planning biographies that would portray John as some sort of tragic hero, twisting every part of his life to fit the same mood that came at the end of his story. Someone had even suggested that the Beatles should reunite without John, using his son Julian in his place. That had been one of the hardest press conferences Paul had ever been to. He’d struggled to remain calm and keep his emotions under control, explaining that it wasn’t right to expect Julian to be able to fill the large shoes of being a Beatle. What he really wanted to say was that John could never be replaced. There was only one John Lennon, the friend who completed the foursome, who had played with him, talked with him, understood him, and got into trouble with him. Julian might be enough like John to please the people who were only thinking of his musical ability, but no one could be enough like John to replace John the friend.
Of course, the press wasn’t entirely to blame for not realizing how important this was. Paul knew that he had been spending the past ten years treating John like they had never been 프렌즈 at all. Most of the time they had ignored each other completely, although occasionally one had acknowledged the other 의해 글쓰기 a song deliberately meant to insult him. That was the worst part of all – the thought that John might have lived his last moments believing he and Paul were no longer friends, and Paul would never be able to tell him otherwise.
