um,idk, this is kinda hard.i mean, you have ppl like Kierra Knightly who constantlly do period films, and then u have ppl like Will Ferrel who do similar comedies/parodies just b/c they've had sucess w/a few movies like that.but i think that they do that b/c they're stuck in a rut&its probaly their agents' fault&not their own,b/c most actors want 2 stretch the limits&continue 2 improve their acting skills

Yes, Like Kevin Costner. But an actor like Johnny Depp does not. A true actor does different roles, and not stick with the safe side doing a role that you know everyone will enjoy.

especially with comedians sometimes they can't get serious parts;no one would take them seriously

Some actors do, some don't.

Jennifer Aniston always plays the same character. So does Leslie Nielsen, at least in every movie I've seen him in (don't judge, I used to be a huuuuge fan when I was eleven :') ).

Kind of. This is due partially to the fact that producer/merchandiser buisiness types like to use actors as a safe investment. Repeatedly casting actors in the same role is called typecasting. Typecasting is usually frowned on by critics and those serious about film, as it can be used to create those safe summer movies that are just recreations of older films. This can turn out either way depending on the writing and directiing.

Some actors are ok with typecasting either for the work (working actors who take whatever comes their way), the money, or just that they are character actors (only proven to be good at one role). Most actors, though, who get into the buisiness for the craft hate this. Most of that type want to prove they can do anything. Thats why you see Lawrence Olivier, Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Paul Scofield, Ellen Burstyn, Meryl Streep, Peter O' Toole, Diane Keaton, Alec Guiness, Humphrey Bogart, Jodie Foster, and many other greats (who would fill lists pages long) play in many different types of films.

Michael Cera. He will still be playing the adorable dork when he's 120, once the residuals from "Superbad 4: McLovin versus Godzilla" have worn off.

I agree about most of these actors, but not Hugh Grant. Some of his characters might be a little similar, but still... sometimes he plays the arrogant jerk (Bridget Jones's diary), sometimes the more romantic, insecure (Nottinghill, S&S). In Maurice, though I haven't seen the movie or read the book, he plays a young homosexual man.
