Hi guys, I know that this board is pretty empty, but I thought that it would be interesting to compare both the 1998 version with the 2012 version.

1998 Version

While the majority of the movie is faithful, there are a number of things that I wasn't very happy about. In the case of Valjean, he was a very violent man in this version. Whereas in the book, the musical and 이전 adaptations. He's very harmless and will never go as far as to attack the Bishop and slap Cossette later in the movie after discovering that the latter is in 사랑 with Marius from Javert's letter.

The Acting

Okay, I was very impressed with the choice of the cast. This was my first time hearing Anne Hathaway sing as she previously the original choice for Christine Daae in the 2004 Phantom of the Opera before Emmy Rossum got the part. Anne's rendition of I Dreamed a Dream really brought me to tears, I even had the soundtrack and I cried non-stop!
I knew that Hugh Jackman was the perfect Valjean and his voice is very calm that he convinced everyone that he's the perfect...

I just thought I would point out some of the differences between the movie and the book, not to criticize the movie, but to give a clearer picture of the story to those who haven't read the book.

1st. The Thenardiers:
The Thenardiers are quite different in the book. In the movie they are greedy and a bit goofy. In the book they are greedy but very serious and quite cruel. They also have five children, not the assumed one, and Gavroche is one of them. Marius is also constantly trying to repay Thenardier for saving his father at the battle of Waterloo, although Marius ends up causing Thenardiers'...

Okay, as I promise, here is my review on both movie and stage. I managed to see the movie again last night and here is the comparison with its stage counterpart.

The Movie Version

The movie version is slightly shorter because the original stage version is really long! If they kept the original length, the songs will definitely have to much repetition!
Also, some of the songs have swap so that the story have some logic sense in it. Especially I Dreamed a Dream which comes after Lovely Ladies, whereas in the original stage version, it is the other way around for logic reasons.

Okay, so there have been complains regarding Russell Crowe's 노래 and his portrayal as Javert in the movie. So are my choices who is going to be the perfect choice if Crowe was not chosen in the first place!

1) Liam Neeson

I first saw his portrayal as Valjean in the 1998 version of Les Miserables, I personally felt he should have play a very aloof Javert in this 2012 version. Since he's a very good actor who can bland in with different types of characters throughout his 연기 career.
