I don't think he is a really good ruler at all, I mean with close the gates, is that an example for a good king? Plus he doesn't have much role.

He couldnt handle well his daugther's problem, how would he handle a kingdom?

though there weren't any specific problem shown in the kingdom, i think he didn't foresee how his daughter's powers could eventually be also a threat to people's life.

I wish his characterization had been given more depth. I mean, just giving us a rushed over synopsis for why he stuck his daughter in a room for most of her life...is not a good characterization. It needs more reasoning and explanation--- that is to say exposition.

Look, I don't hate him, but I do think he did Elsa a tremendous disservice.

He means well, but he is such a ditz.

He's a horrible ruler, especially with placing someone like Jafar as his advisor. Really bad judge of character. Plus there's also the fact that there are so many starving orphans in his kingdom as well as extreme methods of punishment, like cutting off someone's hand for stealing.
