Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this. She hesitates before saying it, like she's trying to think of something to keep them away, and she wants to keep them away for pretty obvious reasons.

She mean it both. Fortunately, she had a true excuse. Elsa won't give a false advise to Anna. Elsa understands that a stranger cannot be trusted. Another fortunately (for Elsa), what she has said happen to Anna. Yay!

It's kind of both in my opinion but I wouldn't want either that my sister marry the first man she just met that afternoon. *and she was right*

I never really thought of it that way, though. I like the idea! :D

Before she states that comment, she appears a little more worried and vulnerable, and comments softly "can i speak to you alone, for a minute?" to Anna. I'm thinking she was planning to tell her the truth about her powers in that moment, but Anna didn't want none of that, so Elsa turned completely stern and gave out that comment.

She says it for a reason you know-- because the screenwriters that want a feminist message told her to, so obviously she means what she says, she's not her own sentient being.

Imagine if your sibling or close friend came up to you with someone they just met a few hours before and said, "We're getting married!" Then explain they only have a few days to plan the ceremony, and decide to have the reception and honeymoon at your house. If you said, "You can't marry a wo/man you just met," would you have an alternate reason for saying it, or would you mean it the way it came out?

She mean, you must know everything about a man first before you marry him (his hobby, personality, etc.) and don't too easy for trust a stranger man.
That's makes me love Elsa so much! She doesn't trusted someone fast.

I agree with Catwoman, the sentence makes sense but it was also Disney's way of inserting their "meta" to get the critics off their backs.

In comparison it makes more sense than the "dress and animal sidekick" quote in Moana.

Half of it was Elsa covering up her own insecurities, and the other half was Jennifer Lee "getting in a jab at prior Disney Princesses"--- which just helped increase the number of anti-Disney Princess audience members who went to see this movie.

Frozen really just appeals to the anti-DP crowd. The screenplay is written from that perspective.

Which is irritating too because the frozen creators sure don't mind copycatting the very traits about the previous princesses that made people love them (cheerful personality, glamorous gowns, cute sidekicks, catchy "I Want" song, pretty hair and face, overall made to appeal to kids). They wanted to have their cake and eat it too.
