Elena’s passionate embrace with Damon in “Heart Of Darkness” (3x19) signified a new beginning for Delena, a time where Elena is starting to realize she needs Damon like she needs air. When she ran towards Damon to 키스 him, she let go of all the guilt she’s been feeling for falling for Damon, the fear she has of her own feelings. She allowed herself to forget the world & just feel what she really feels for him. Elena gave herself completely to Damon in that moment & that 키스 set her free. They pulled each other as close as humanly possible as Florence + The Machine’s “Never Let Me Go” played, a perfect song choice considering that once Damon held Elena, she seemed to never want Damon to let her go. Elena has said it herself that she can’t shake Damon & the people around her have noticed that Damon has gotten under Elena’s skin & that she’s in 사랑 with Damon. Lines like “I’m here until the end, I am not leaving you” (2x22) & “We can’t leave Damon” (3x02) are now 더 많이 significant in connection to the song “Never Let Me Go.” It also connects well to how fierce they are about protecting each other. Elena refused to leave Damon’s side when he was dying even though it was possible he could hurt her (2x22) & both have considered going up against an Original in order to protect the other even though they both know they are no match for an Original (3x19). They’re willing to fight to protect one another & die to keep the other safe.
Rose: “It’s not just that she makes him a better person, and she does. He changes her too. Damon challenges her, surprises her. He makes her 질문 her life, beliefs” (3x19)
However, Elena hasn’t fully given herself to Damon yet. When Damon asked her if she has feelings for him she responded 의해 saying “I don’t know.” It’s pretty clear that Elena does have very strong feelings for Damon but she’s not prepared to say it out loud. She took a step 앞으로 towards admitting her feelings for Damon 의해 연기 on those feelings when she initiated the 키스 between them. But she’s not there just yet. That’s why when they are angry at each other (For example Elena’s anger towards Damon after he snapped Jeremy’s neck in 2x01 & Damon’s reaction to feeling rejected 의해 Elena in 3x14) that anger is magnified and when they kissed in 3x10 & even 더 많이 so in 3x19 their passion for each other was magnified. Basically Delena set an undeniable 불, 화재 within each other. Elena has never experienced a 사랑 like that with anyone & it scares her because it’s unfamiliar territory. That’s why she could barely breathe when Damon touched her hand & why she had to lean against a 벽 for support after holding his hand. He leaves her breathless every time. When it comes to the other loves she’s had in her life, they don’t compare. Matt was very familiar for her, someone she knew from childhood & formulated a friendship with him. For her Matt is comfortable. And Stefan is Elena’s 안전한, 안전 choice & that’s why Rose said “He’ll always be good for her” but being with Stefan 또는 Matt means forsaking passionate love, the kind of 사랑 당신 live for, the kind of 사랑 she could have with Damon. In other words Elena would be settling for 초 best. They bring out the best in one another, they have from the start. Elena brings out Damon’s humanity & Damon brings out Elena’s passion within. Something that no one else can do for either of them. They are & always will be each others perfect match.
When Elena moved her 베개 slightly just to get a better view of Damon she was pushing her fear aside to really see Damon. There was longing & desire in her eyes like Damon was the most beautiful thing Elena has ever seen. But she also had a look of wonder, wonder of what it would be like to finally tell Damon what she feels, to give into her feelings, to just let go. It was a look that was so sudden but Damon caught it. It’s a look that the viewers have seen all along but it means what Damon thought couldn’t be true, that Elena wants him. Elena knows that she wants Damon, & deep down she already knows that she loves him too & so does Damon. Elena knows that there is no way Damon would 또는 could walk away from her, he promised to never leave her again. We can probably expect similar words from Elena at some point in the near future as well. Elena is Damon’s 집 & Damon is her home, & once they are on the same level & everything is out in the open they really will not be able to let each other go. Because when it's real 당신 can't walk away.
