I remember visiting this website once...
It was called ‘X-Men: Apocalypse': Bryan Singer Teases Destruction On Set
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Avengers will turn on each other in Captain America: Civil War, and Ryan Reynolds may finally redeem the merc with the mouth in Deadpool. Clearly, 2016 is going up to be a big year for superhero films – potentially apocalyptic. And amidst the chaotic hype and unending set leaks, Bryan Singer refuses to let fans forget about X-Men: Apocalypse, regularly teasing scenes, new (recast) characters, and concept art from the film on his social media accounts.
The director is also set to bring the latest X-Men installment – and potentially the conclusion to the established mutant universe – to Hall H this Saturday at Comic-Con. What he’ll debut is anyone’s guess, but attendees can definitely expect a sneak peak of the film’s footage (a trailer, maybe?), hopefully providing our first look at the titular villain and the destruction he plans to unleash.
If you can’t make it to Comic-Con – or you simply can’t wait for 20th Century Fox’s SDCC panel – Singer has (once again) taken to Instagram to tease some of this destruction prior to Saturday. The latest post comes in the form of a set video, in which the director provides a 360 degree panoramic view of a busy and explosive scene. See for yourself below:
I sent this to my awesome costume designer Louise to articulate that I was a little busy at the moment. #Xmen #apocalypse
While the video does not reveal any mutants or mutant powers in action, it does seem to show the after-effects of a battle or explosion – or an explosive battle. Complete with green screens, a rather large helicopter, and plenty of crew members, Singer could be teasing one of the very big set pieces from
Though the question remains, what has been reduced to rubble and flaming debris as glimpsed in the beginning of the tease? Our best guess would be the X-Mansion, which has been destroyed (and rebuilt)
times in the comics and is due for its regular assault and/or detonation.
Leveling the mansion would make sense symbolically, considering the X-Men franchise may reboot entirely following the cataclysmic events of
. And it would also make sense in terms of comic lore. During the crossover storyline, “Age of Apocalypse,” Magneto uses the ruins of the partially destroyed mansion as a headquarters for the X-Men to regroup against the villain.
As such, all the signs seem to point toward Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters bearing the brunt of Apocalypse’s, well, apocalypse – or at least a portion of it. And destroyed mansion or not, the video certainly indicates that the film is trying to be even more epic than
But until we see anything further at Comic-Con, that remains to be seen.
(not the official title) on March 3rd, 2017,
on June 9th, 2017, and some as-yet unspecified X-Men film on July 13th, 2018.
