I have always loved the interactions between House's other halves, 또는 Wilson and Cuddy. It has always fascinated me to see how the people who House has let into his life deal with that very heavy burden and the resulting impact on their lives. I started this 기사 based around the idea of what the OT3 (House, Cuddy and Wilson) do for each other and found myself 글쓰기 a Wuddy 기사 much easier than an OT3 article. It is a relationship that is under-rated and is often overlooked since it is only a foundation relationship for the show. But never-the-less it is one of my favourites, and while I may not "ship" Wuddy, it is easily one of the 더 많이 important interactions to watch on screen. So these are just some thoughts I through done about the Wuddy relationship and what it brings to the show.

Wilson and Cuddy are a relationship that has grown tremendously through the show. Allied from the beginning as the two people who could actually “control” House, Cuddy and Wilson found solace in having someone else to help shoulder the burden of being someone in House’s very restricted 원, 동그라미 of trust. But Cuddy and Wilson get different things from the relationship as well as different things are highlighted 의해 interacting with each other.


Wilson is an extremely insecure person who puts on this “persona”, as House calls it, so that everyone will like him. He changes the way he acts around everyone, again thank 당신 House, in order to please people and make each person feel special. He feels a very large amount of guilt surrounding the disappearance of his brother and therefore compensates that guilt 의해 giving everyone his “undivided” attention. His marriages are a result of his martyrdom and eventually Wilson became tired of being the knight, became unhappy (maybe even resented the wives) and ended up cheating on 2 out of his 3 wives. The reason I said that Wilson is incredibly insecure is because the women Wilson normally “falls” for are needy who are swept away 의해 the chivalrous attitude that Wilson presents them with. He needs to feel needed, again a House realization, so that he feels somewhat important. This behavior is often highlighted around Cuddy.

When Wilson was playing around with the idea of dating Cuddy, House saw this cycle of behavior with women starting up and saw the inevitable chain of events that he feared would lead Cuddy to become the 4th Mrs. Wilson.

Cuddy: Maybe I just want a friend and Wilson is a 안전한, 안전 choice.

House: I’m not safe? Cool. James Wilson is never a 안전한, 안전 choice.

Cuddy: Going to a gallery, we’re not getting married.

House: Sure, 당신 say that now. He always marries them in the end!

I too see this behavior exhibited towards Cuddy. Wilson is immensely kind to Cuddy. He comforted her in “Finding Judas” when her deepest fears were revealed and then again in both “Painless” and “Big Baby” when her fears were actually realized. He also takes a very passive aggressive stance on the House and Cuddy relationship and constantly pushes for it (but I have mixed feelings on this). Of course Wilson is just being a good friend to Cuddy, but many of his actions have been of the extreme nature rather than just consoling Cuddy, he goes the extra mile for her. The reason this makes me think of the cycle, is because Cuddy, in reality, has done hardly anything to repay his kindness. She thanks him for the gifts and the attention, but he is rarely rewarded 의해 her, well not in a way he recognizes anyway, and therefore all of these actions are for her alone. This is why I say his actions around her highlight his martyrdom 더 많이 so than around House.

His cupid play with House and Cuddy highlights 더 많이 of his personality. I think a large part of why he has such a large interest in this brewing romance is because of Amber. Wilson may never admit it to himself, but his desperate desire for House and Cuddy to get together is partially because he needs to know that 사랑 can triumph, even against 믿을 수 없는 odds, and that maybe he can find 사랑 again someday. The other reason I think Wilson ships Huddy is because of House rather than Cuddy. I think Wilson sees the potential happiness House has in front of him and rather than let House shrink away from it, Wilson is making his friend grab the opportunity before it goes. But Wilson knows House is a hopeless case in actually making progress with relationships and so he hopes that maybe if Cuddy plays her cards, House might respond. Therefore he advises Cuddy and pushes the relationship further (all of Cuddy’s pushes have been because of Wilson), which leads us to the 다음 part of what “Wuddy” brings out in Wilson, his manipulative side.

When Wilson and Cuddy first went into cahoots in “Detox”, Wilson knew the only way in which House might try a week without Vicodin was if he was bribed with something he wanted more, no clinic duty, this is where Cuddy came in. Wilson brought Cuddy into the idea of getting House to admit he had a problem with Vicodin 의해 arranging for her to set up a bet between her and House. Wilson initially recruited Cuddy as an ally for House because he needed someone who could actually offer, 또는 take away, things that might affect House. But soon enough, Cuddy grew from just the power wielder, into someone he could actually talk about House with. But because Cuddy views him as the person who knows House the best, often enough he manipulates her into working with him on plots because she truly thinks that Wilson knows what he’s doing withHouse. “Meaning”, “Cane and Able”, and “Merry Little Christmas” all deal with Wilson pushing Cuddy to side with him on matters she wasn’t happy about being involved in. Normally because of that, Cuddy takes the heat from people like Cameron, when she isn’t very comfortable nor confident with her 답변 as to why she’s doing what she’s doing. House sees through this most of the time and calls Wilson out on his plans.

House: 당신 believe what Cuddy tried to pull?

Wilson: What now?

House: She lied to me. She cured my patient with my diagnosis, then lied to me about it.

Wilson: That doesn’t sound like her.

House: You’re right. It does sound like you, though.

The Wuddy relationship also brings out a lot of different things in Cuddy’s personality. Wilson is a very important character for Cuddy; he plays what Cuddy played for Stacy, a friend that conveniently reveals aspects about that character we wouldn’t see otherwise. From Cuddy’s perspective, she doesn’t have many 프렌즈 and it seems Wilson is the only close friend she has. When I spoke before about Cuddy not rewarding Wilson for his kindness, I also mentioned that the “rewarding” may not be an object of gratitude, but the way in which Cuddy confides in him is his actual reward. Cuddy, like it seems with most of the characters, is also an extremely insecure character. She too uses a “persona” of the powerful, confident single woman to throw people off of the scent of the incredibly needy person she actually is. Her low cut tops and baby craze are but hints to that person. House easily picks up on that neediness and his attempted sabotage of the Wuddy relationship, reveals his thoughts on that matter. But just like House, her neediness if blocked off 의해 an emotional 벽 she has put up and she rarely confides in anyone about anything. But she confides in Wilson, “Finding Judas”, “Painless” and “Big Baby” are all episodes that include that. She trusts Wilson and tells him things, and although that is not a tangible object of gratitude, it is a huge reward for Cuddy to give. This is what Wilson brings out in Cuddy, her thoughts and insecurities and fears that otherwise would have remained unsaid. Her character becomes 더 많이 developed through her interactions with Wilson.


The Wuddy relationship is a very important one that reveals a lot about the characters that are, in my opinion, the closest to House. Bonded over a mutual care for him, Wilson and Cuddy support each other in their own way and have surfaced to be one of the 더 많이 significant relationships that make up the backbone of House MD. While they may not always be shoved the to fore-front of the show, this relationship allows viewers to see aspects of both Wilson and Cuddy they may have never been noticed.
