(Stay and Run is just the working title)
It’s not until you’re missing that people really notice who 당신 are. They think about how much they miss you, they want 당신 to come back. They remember their moments with you, the 책 당신 read, the shows 당신 liked. Even at age thirteen, the girls were loved. They were popular. Gorgeous seventh graders who everyone loved. And they weren’t bitchy. They were possibly some of the nicest people 당신 would ever meet. That changed oh so easily.
Thirteen. That’s how old they were when they were taken. One…at…a…time. As each one was taken, they grew 더 많이 terrified.
Their parents began catching on. Every parent in the small town in Oregon protected their children so much it made them seem crazy. But it wasn’t just anyone being taken. It was those girls. They were the targets.
Elody was the first to go. Then Layne. 명예, 로렐 and Danielle shortly after. 별, 스타 followed. And then Amber. And finally, Spencer was gone, too. The last one.
Everyone was panicking. The girls were surely dead. Surely a murderer was after them. The police investigated. Even the best PIs couldn’t find a clue. Not a hair, not a fingerprint, NOTHING was found. Seven girls just disappeared into thin air.
Spencer remembered it clearly. She woke up in a room with almost nothing; metal desk, metal 침대 with a white mattress, small closet, metal walls, bolted door. Where was she? She looked at her injuries that she remembered getting from fighting. They weren’t there. She actually felt great. Wide awake, healthy, full of energy. But panicking. Freaking out. Where was she?
Who would want seven thirteen-year-old it-girls? Of course it had to be the same person who took her friends. Spencer sat at the end of the bed. She paced. But she was dead silent. She was too terrified to make a sound.
She and her 프렌즈 all looked older than they should. At least sixteen, they’d been told. But they were only thirteen. And in some strange, mysterious place.
Finally, Spencer spoke. “Who are you? What do 당신 want? Where are my friends?” Her voice got louder with every question. She got 더 많이 aggressive. “ANSWER ME!” She finally shouted after a while. That was when she broke down. Sitting down, arms wrapped around her knees, leaning against the wall, the girl started silently sobbing.
“Spencer?”
Spencer immediately sat up, running to where the sound was. It was from the other side of the metal wall. “Is someone there?” No answer. Louder, she said, “Who is it?”
There was silence. Spencer’s 심장 sank. She probably imagined it. But then, she heard something.
“I can’t hear you,” she said in response.
“It’s Laurel!”
“Laur?” Spencer smiled. But the smile quickly faded. “Laurel, do 당신 know where we are?”
“No,” Spencer heard 명예, 로렐 say.
“Are the other girls-“ Spencer was cut off 의해 the sound of the door opening. A woman stood there, in a business suit with long, wavy blonde hair.
“Spencer Marie Eymes, is it?” The blonde asked. She was in her early thirties, at least. Spencer nodded. “I’m Jeannine. 당신 can call me that. You’re going to have to come with me.”
Spencer stayed where she was. She finally noticed her clothes. Black sweatpants and a gray tank top. Hmm. “H-how can I trust you?”
“Just do as I say,” Jeannine said calmly. “Everything will be fine.”
Spencer, terrified, slowly walked towards her. She had two security guards. They started walking down the hall.
“What’s this about?” Spencer asked. “Where am I?” She noticed the metal walls and floor. Their steps echoed through the hall that was lined with tiny vents and doors that looked just like hers, each with a number.
“You will see,” Jeannine answered.
Spencer was led to what looked like a conference room. Her 프렌즈 sat in seats around the table. Spencer’s face lit up.
“Spence!” Elody yelled, standing up. A security guard told her to sit back down and shut up.
Spencer sat down, staying quiet and composed. They explained everything to the girls. Elody had it the hardest, she had to stay in that room having no idea what was going on ever since she was missing. They had waited for all seven of the girls.
Spencer knew these girls 의해 heart. She herself had long, wavy dark brown hair and 초콜릿 brown eyes. Amber Carlson lived up to her name; her golden-red hair and golden brown eyes were a sight 당신 would never forget. 별, 스타 Jameson was a medium-sized, rail-thin girl with thin, straight blonde hair and practically clear eyes. Danielle Elles was tall with light brown hair and brown eyes. 명예, 로렐 Evert has thick, blonde hair. Real blonde, not the dirty blonde 당신 normally see. A beautiful golden yellow color. Her dark blue eyes really left an impression. Layne Morris, thin and long brown hair and blue eyes. Fairly short, thin but not a skeleton. And Elody McNarra, also known as Em. (Her two initials. People who heard her called 의해 her nickname always thought her name was Emily.) Green eyes, dirty blonde hair.
Spencer would never forget these girls.
Jeannine explained that they were a secret government assassin agency. It reminded Spencer of a TV show she would watch, Nikita 또는 something. Little did she know her life would become something like that show. Because everything from that show about the agency in it applied to the one they were in now.
They were all given new identities, saying that Spencer, Elody, Danielle, Star, Laurel, Layne, and Amber were dead. Really, they had faked the girls’ deaths. Without the girls even being there. These guys were good. Their new names? Lorissa, Jasmine, Isabelle, Kate, Ally, Morgan, and Trista. But when they were alone, they used their real (or at least, they were real) names.
It was tough. They trained all hours of the 일 as assassins. Amber was deathly afraid of guns, so she was in even 더 많이 of a hell than the others. In fact, Amber was the first to go.
Yes, go. Amber was in the shooting range after a few months of training. Her whole body was sore. She strongly disapproved of violence and hurting people of any kind, and now she was forced to do exactly that. For the rest of her life. Forever and always killing people on command. She couldn’t do it. And there was no chance of escape. She stopped practicing shooting, which she actually sucked at. The guard yelled at her as she turned around. Everyone stepped out of the little cells where they were shooting and looked at her. Amber stared at her six best friends. The girls who had always been there for her. The girls she had known her entire life. She slowly whispered, “I’m sorry” to them. The guards, and her friends, realized what she was doing. But before she could be stopped, the bullet was already clear through her head.
Two years later. The girls were being pushed, hard. Their training left them bleeding at night and sore in the morning. Elody wasn’t good with it. She couldn’t keep up. She 로스트 every fight. Failed a bunch of tests. Went to the nurse too often. It was hard. They eventually decided Elody was no use, that she was a liability, that they shouldn’t waste their time on her. And they couldn’t just set her free, she would tell someone. So she was lured into a room, they said they needed to talk to her, and poof! There went Elody.
Seven months after. Danielle had perfected her plan to escape. In her free time for the past few months, she had been walking around and surveying the halls. She found a vent. A big one, right in the abandoned part of the halls. They found out about her plan right as she was testing it. Danielle was gone shortly after. Only the girls didn’t know for a while, they were told that Danielle had been cancelled like Elody had ben. They found out from another recruit, but either way, they had 로스트 another friend.
Spencer, Layne, Laurel, and Star. They were the ones who were left. 명예, 로렐 became the kick-ass, fast, know-your-weaknesses type. Spencer was the sneaky, carefully-planning-out spy type. Layne was the brainy one who figured everything out. And 별, 스타 was…Star. Glamorous honey pot that could kick some 나귀, 엉덩이 when she needed to.
After five years there, they finally figured it out. They could get out. They could use the vent Danielle discovered. Layne could get their tracker chips to show them on the other side of the world while they got them surgically taken out. It would be hard and risk their lives, but it would be worth it.
It worked.
They used their old first names, using new last names. Very generic last names. Smith, Mason, Johnson, et cetera. It would make them slightly harder to track. They found out the place they were was in Washington. They moved to Carline, Pennsylvania. They took college courses. They were 안전한, 안전 for three years.
Until 별, 스타 went missing.
