Alex paced her room, bored. It was just another summer Thursday in the city of Verona, Italy. Her mom was in her 집 office, reviewing a book for publishing, and Alex's little brother Sam was at the park with his friends. Alex would do the same, but she didn't have many friends, and her best friend was in Paris for the summer. Alex stopped pacing, stomped her foot and quietly cursed her bordom in Italian. Then she slipped on her ballet 아파트 and bonded out into the hall.

"Mom! I'm going to check the mail! Be right back!" She shouted in American English into the apartment and grabbed the keys. Without waiting for an answer, Alex closed the door behind her and started towards the stairs. She skipped down the steps, two at a time, until the finally reached ground level. The lobby was a nice place, with red walls, a gold desk, two gold couches on the opposite side, and big(fake) bushes on eather side of the double doors. When the man behind the 책상, 데스크 heard her come down, he looked up from his computer, his fingers still typing. He nodded, then flicked his gaze back to the computer. Alex turned a sharp 90 degree angle and found the mail box. She stuck the key into the number twelve box and opened it. Since her mom had checked the mail only two days ago, there wasn't much in it. Just some letters and one of those big flyers for a vacation in Hawaii. Alex closed the mail box door and slowly began back up the stairs, shifting through the mail.

'Bill, bill, bill, ohh, what's this?' Alex pulled out a yellow envelope. It was one of those that had little brown flecks on it, like someone had lightly sprinkled it with dirt. In the very center was her name and address, written in classic black-ink cursive. Alex turned it over, but there was no return address. Alex shrugged, put it back in the stack in her hands, and quickened her pace back to two steps at a time.

When she got back to her apartment, Alex tossed the bills on the end table, and threw the flyer away. Walking to her room, Alex turned the letter over in her hands. It was dry and soft at the same time, and it smelled faintly of lavender. Alex tossed herself on her 침대 and wondered who had sent the letter. She hesitated before opening it. She thought 'What if it's a scam? What if they put a tracking devise on it and as I speak are tracking were I live?' But in the end, Alex's curiosity won out. She ripped open the envelope and took out four pieces of paper. Two were written in English, and two were written in Italian. Since it was her birth tongue, Alex read the English one first. She put one page behind the first and was about to read when suddenly a woman's voice beat her to it.

"Dear Ms. Alexandria Linguini Hays".......... Alex shrieked and jumped off her bed, quickly burrowing herself in her stuffed animal pile at one corner of her bed.

"Congratulations! 당신 have been excepted into Tairian School for Witches, a girls boarding school for young witches! 당신 will receive your own wand when 당신 arrive, and during the 년 당신 will learn how to use it to cast useful spells."

Alex's jaw dropped.

"On July 30th, 당신 will go to Verona Train Station, platform fifteen. Get on the 10:30 train. Here is your ticket; do not, under any circumstances, loose this ticket. If 당신 do, 당신 will have to pay a fine of a hundred dollars to receive a new one."

"The other sheet of paper is a list of all the things 당신 will bring, from your 집 and thing 당신 will buy. Again, congratulations and welcome to the world of magic!"

"Sincerely,
Professor A. McGuffry
Head Mistres"

Silence........

Ten 분 passed..........

Fifteen 분 passed.........

After twenty minutes, Alex finally got up. On the papers was a train ticket that Alex knew had not been there before. It was scheduled for 10:30, platform fifteen. Just like the woman had said. Gingerly, Alex picked up the letter. She read it once, twice. It said exactly what the woman had said.

That meant....... That she was........... Alex's face paled, and she ran as fast as she could to her moms room. "Mom!" Alex barged in. Her mom was sitting at her desk, her noise berried in a book. She sighed.

" Alex, how many times-" She looked up and saw Alex's face. " Alex honey? What's wrong?"

" This is? I get a letter that, when I opened it, starts to read it's self and claims that I'm a witch!" Alex waved the letter in the air.

Her moms face dropped. "Not you.......... I never thought they would........... Oh dear, I have some explaining to do." She put the book down and stood up.

"Yes, yes 당신 do." Alex folded her arms. Her Mom sat down on the 침대 and motioned for Alex to do the same. When she did, her mom sighed again.

" Well, I'll be frank with you, Alex. Your father was a wizard, and it seems that 당신 have inherited his blood." She looked at Alex, almost like this was her fault. Alex's head was spinning. 'Not half an 시간 이전 I was a normal American and Italian girl living in Verona. Now I'm a witch!'. Surprisingly, Alex took it well. It seemed like she had forgotten something, then remembered it. It just fit into her life. Maybe it was the fact it had something to do with her dad, who had died when Alex was four in a fire. Alex nodded, suddenly calm.

"Sure, Im a witch. Why not?"

I am from a dad who showed me 사랑 –till I turned four
--A navy man with no 더 많이 room for me
To burned bridges with family, 프렌즈 and loved ones

From the chilly blue ocean, days spent at the golden beach,
And time spent hiding from the world

From days spent with despair and wishes for death
To days with unending laughter and forced smiles

The hopes of tomorrow being destroyed
And memories that become tarnished

From helping raise four younger siblings
And growing up too fast
To begging my friend not to die

From my tears, joy, and fears
To finding the Father who always loved me

From being too terrified...

As I gasp for breath while I drown the pain in morphine
While my 심장 beats in tune with the rolling static hills on the metal screen
I lay on my deathbed reflecting on my life
I can say I had a good one although it was filled to the brim with tidal waves of hurt
I laughed in delight while running through the golden fields embracing the open skies and wearing a halo of warm sunshine
I climbed trees and swam in the salty 에메랄드 sea
But Moma was always working hard at the 식당 filling out orders for sugary milkshakes and greasy fries
And brother Tim was always out too late fixing old radios who sang...

It’s raining on my window pane,
Inside this house looks so lame.
I’m so funny, so bored hunni.
Nothing much to do but to be a horn dog,
Being bored makes me write in my log.

Are we counting up 또는 down?
Nothing seems to go around.
Boredom, 당신 don’t like him.
Boredom, 당신 wanna shoot him.
Don’t make that move.

당신 get in trouble when looking for fun,
당신 get so tired when the 일 is done.
Soon as 당신 get in bed,
당신 remember what should be done instead.
Just forget the problem.

Get a goodnight sleep and dream.
Forget about the boring adventure,
당신 should’ve discovered something in nature.
Boredom, forget them.
Boredom, sleep before the morning.
