Okay, so far, most of these 영화 have been new experiences for me. Most of them were films I had never seen, 또는 even heard about. But then, we get to this movie. This film is a classic. This is one that I had watched when I was a kid and got real into. I even watched the garbage sequels. Tremors was not really the biggest hit when it first came out, but it soon became huge after it got released on video and played on television. Is this movie as good as I remember. For Cultober, let’s take a look at 1990’s Tremors and find out
Tremors follows two handymen, Val and Earl, who get tired at working at the dead end desert town of Perfection, and decide to leave town soon. But their plans are cut short when the town is suddenly attacked 의해 subterranean creatures later nicknamed Graboids. As people end up popping up dead all over the town and the Graboids make their existence clear, Val and Earl stay in Perfection to help defend the town from the invading creatures. Now, first thing that should be noted is that this barely counts as a horror movie. It sure as hell isn’t scary. It’s kinda hard to be scary when 당신 got Kevin 베이컨 as your lead role shouting fuck 당신 at a puppet, but it’s got the perfect scenes of horror. It’s got the suspense, it hides the creatures, and it always has its slow build up to the reveal of the Graboids. Finding the man dead from dehydration on 상단, 맨 위로 of the electric pole, finding a farmers severed head, an old married couple’s car getting buried, it’s got it all.
But let’s talk about the creatures of the movie, the Graboids. Just the 디자인 of these things is something that is hard to grasp. They are these large snake like creatures with three tongues that also have teeth attached to them. They have no eyes, so they cannot see, but they can hear the vibrations and people talking, and use that to 옮기기 through the ground to catch their prey off guard. They can’t see us, but we can’t see them either. And as the movie goes on, the Graboids learn from the 이전 ones mistakes in order to get them. One gets killed 의해 trying to break into the houses, the others will just tear the houses down from the outside. One eats a pipe bomb and dies, the other will just spit it back towards the survivors. They aren’t just wild beasts, they have intelligence and know how to use it to their advantage. Also, the practical effects for the Graboids are amazing. This was the 초 movie to have the use of the special effects company, Amalgamated Dynamics, who, after this movie, went on to do effects for films like the Aliens franchise to as recent as the new It movie (Also, if your curious, their first movie was Teen Witch).
Another thing I like about this film is how some of the people treat it. The main duo’s first thought when finding a Graboid under their car is to try and sell the thing off to a store clerk who is willing to pay for it. They even get money 의해 taking pictures of the creatures corpses. In later films, like the sequel, Tremors 2: Aftershocks, they end the movie 의해 planning to create a monster themed theme park. In Tremors 3: Return to Perfection, they sell off a surviving creature for money. I feel like there is a sort of underlying theme about business 또는 something, but we all know I’m not that much of a snob to look into it
I’d say that, yeah, Tremors is still a fun movie. The characters are threatened, but never take the situation seriously, making them all a lot of fun, and the monsters are creepy, threatening, and have a nice 디자인 to them. And Tremors must’ve done something right, because it managed to get five sequels, quality varying, a tv series in the early 2000s, and a ton of critical acclaim, which I think it 더 많이 than deserves. I highly recommend Tremors to anyone who just wants to have a fun monster movie. It’s worth a watch
