Modding is quite a cool thing in games, isn’t it? 당신 already have an original game, but with a few tweaks, 당신 can turn it into something completely different. The modding community is insane, especially in games like GTA V and Skyrim. 당신 know, before they outlawed modding for GTA and now mods are paid for in Skyrim…. But before that, it was great. Fallout is already a fun game on it’s own, but 의해 turning all the Deathclaws into something like Macho Man Randy Savage, it really turns into a piece of art. But, what if 당신 mod the game so much, 당신 get something completely different, to where it’s its own game? That is what leads us to the mod for Half-Life, Cry of Fear.

Cry of Fear is a game from 2012 and a mod of Half-Life, and I don’t mean Half-Life 2. I mean the original one, with older textures and such. Yet Cry of Fear looks totally different. Aside from that one Half-Life poster near the start of the game, barely any Half-Life stuff is in this game. Every character, enemy, and environment is original. But we’ll get that later. The game follows main character, Simon, who, after being struck 의해 a car, wakes up in a train, where he travels around the city, and must face off against horrifying creatures. Along the way, he comes across a psychotic and violent doctor in a gas mask who murders several people. Simon also meets Sophie…. I’ll discuss her later. Most of the story of Cry of Fear is told through flashbacks, discussing the car accident and Simon’s meetings with a doctor character. The game doesn’t really have that interesting story until the 초 half of the game. For now, it’s just “Get 집 and don’t die”. The enemies are the typical jump scares monsters, always popping out at you. Even at one point coming from under the bed, like a five 년 old’s idea of a monster. The monsters, at least some of them, do look creepy, I’ll give them that. Like the woman with the fetus bursting out of her stomach trying to stab you, 또는 the chained up enemies that attack with their tongues and can break from their chains to beat 당신 and become 더 많이 faster. But other than that, they all just jump at you. And the enemies with 총 are a real annoyance, because it just feels like a shootout rather than facing an unknown beast. I hate those ones so much. But what the game lacks in subtle enemy scares, it makes up for in the feeling of isolation.

Cry of Fear is a very lonely game. The character, Simon, is in fact, a lonely person. He doesn’t want to show it, but inside, he feels alone. And the isolated feeling this game gives off really shows it. You’re in a big city, but there isn’t a single person 당신 meet, and those 당신 do meet, being the Doctor and Sophie, are either crazy or… are Sophie (Again, I’ll get to her later). The entire city is just abandoned, leaving 당신 to travel across the place on your own, and I do 사랑 that. It reminds me so much of Silent Hill, having a person be all alone to fend off against creatures of their own psyche. In fact, this game reminds me a lot of Silent Hill. Abandoned residents, few people in the area, monsters symbolic to the character. Oh, and pretty bad voice acting. The voice 연기 in Silent 언덕, 힐 2 wasn’t great, but it definitely knew when to show emotion at times. In Cry of Fear… Wow. 당신 can tell this was made 의해 a few groups of people. The first half of the game's voice 연기 isn’t good, but it does get better, thankfully. It’s like they recorded on two occasions. And just like Silent Hill, Cry of Fear has a lot of memorable rooms. Silent 언덕, 힐 always had THOSE rooms. Rooms that were very special, and spooky. Cry of Fear also has it’s own share, like the room with pictures that suddenly goes black and with people suddenly popping up before disappearing. A room with a bunch of hands trying to kill you. And the hall that twists and turns as 당신 jump across. That was a really neat room. But not all the rooms are wonderful. There’s this one part of the game where your phone dies. The phone, being your only 출처 of light, and Cry of Fear, being a dark game, makes it a little difficult to see. So 당신 need a flare. But the flare dies out. And there’s a lot of ladder climbing, and 당신 can’t carry a flare with you, so 당신 have to drop the flare. There are also enemies in these dark rooms, so 당신 have to shoot them. But if 당신 are low on bullets, 당신 won’t be able to shoot, so 당신 have to reload. But 당신 can’t reload without dropping the flare. But 당신 need the flare to see the enemies, but 당신 need the bullets. So 당신 have to decide if 당신 want to drop the flare 또는 not. Cry of Fear has 더 많이 interesting and sometimes amazing rooms, but when it has bad ones, they are really bad.

Despite that hot mess, at least, when 당신 don’t have flares, the inventory is a neat idea. It’s like they took the inventory idea from the 2008 Alone in the Dark, and put it a better game. 당신 can only carry six items, and are very limited. 당신 have to decide on what item 당신 don’t want. 당신 want the syringe to heal yourself, 또는 당신 want this gun to defend yourself? 당신 need to decide. Sure, 당신 could go back and get it after 당신 use a key item, but there will be points when 당신 have to sacrifice some items. Just be careful, as the inventory screen is not a pause screen. If 당신 are in the presence of enemies, take care of them before 당신 check your inventory, 또는 they will kill you. On the subject of great things, the music. The 음악 is probably one of my 가장 좋아하는 things of this game. All of the 음악 is original and created just for this game. And, once again comparing this game to Silent Hill, they all sound very Silent Hill. It even has that Silent 언덕, 힐 like acoustic guitar. 당신 all know the one. The best one. I even listen to his 음악 on frequent occasions they’re so good. Not the best, but they certainly are worthy of listening to.

I’m going to be spoiling the game from here on out, so, if 당신 haven’t played Cry of Fear and want to, it’s best 당신 leave the 기사 here. 당신 have been warned.

Okay, I’ve put it off long enough. Sophie’s character isn’t that interesting. 또는 good. At least in the first appearance. She comes in around the fourth… I think it was… chapter, and, being a friend to Simon, they have a conversation… And then she kills herself. Sorry to go back to Silent 언덕, 힐 again, I know I talk about it a lot, but… Compare Sophie’s character to Angela. (Also, spoilers for Silent 언덕, 힐 2). Angela was a character we knew everything about. We knew why she was suffering, and we even knew what the world looked like through her eyes. It was very depressing, and her suicide made it that 더 많이 impactful. With Sophie… We get introduced to her right away, we don’t know why she is suffering the way she is at this point, and she immediately kills herself right off the bat. Maybe I’m just spoiled on Silent 언덕, 힐 2 (And yes, that is it), but I just couldn’t get invested in her character… Oh, and the boss fight right after with Carcass… Ugh. Everywhere I go, it seems that Carcass is the monster that makes Cry of Fear, like Nemesis 또는 Pyramid Head… Why? I know that those who like Cry of Fear may get mad when I say this, but… Carcass is stupid. He’s just a fleshy guy on a chair. That’s not scary, that’s silly. And those gargling noises he makes aren’t much better. In fact, most of the bosses look stupid. The first one looks okay, but the chainsaw just makes it look like it’s trying too hard. And the once with the mace is just stupid looking. I know they all have their own meanings, and I guess I can’t criticize them for that. I mean, Abstract Daddy was just a door, so I guess I won’t criticize them… I mean the first two bosses. I will always tell people that Carcass is stupid looking.

But, Carcass is good for one thing… It manages to make the ending interesting. 당신 can choose to fight Carcass 또는 run away. And at another point, the crazy doctor will ask 당신 for a gun. 당신 can choose to give him one 또는 not. These choices will impact the ending of the game. In the ending, it shows us that Simon was actually left in a wheelchair after the accident. Because of this, everyone seemed to leave him, and he felt alone because of it. He felt depressed and even thought of the world as a waste. Depending on your choices, Simon would end up killing Sophie, his doctor, 또는 both. If 당신 do kill Carcass and give the Doctor the gun, Simon will show to have been 글쓰기 in a book, given to him 의해 his doctor to help his depression. And at this point, Simon must face himself… Literally. He must kill his darker self. I could look at this as something so stupid and awful, but really, I 사랑 the symbolism behind it. And having to fight an enemy while confined from a wheelchair is amazing. It could be seen as slow, but I 사랑 it. And it lets 당신 take in the creepy scenery. After this, Simon will accidently kill two police officers coming in, and will be confined to an asylum for the rest of his life. Instead of hating life, he instead accepts himself, and, with the help of his doctor, manages to do better, and even accepts Sophie moving on. It’s quite a mature and realistic ending. Is it a happy ending, 의해 no means, but a very realistic one. I really do 사랑 it.

Cry of Fear is not perfect, gameplay wise, 또는 story wise. It has some good ideas, and while some of them manage to work out, others… Not so much. But when they work, 의해 god they work. The story may be slow, but it really manages to pick up at points. The enemies may not be the most interesting, but can really mean a lot if 당신 look at them from other points. The gameplay may not be too amazing, I mean the platforming sucks and there’s a lot of backtracking, but the setting, the music, and the isolation is all incredible. It may not be seen 의해 many to be a stand alone game, thus keeping it from any awards, but I think that Cry of Fear manages to be one of the 더 많이 interesting horror games out there. If 당신 want to give this game a try, I say, go for it. And who knows, maybe I’ll review some of the other games this modding team did one day. Take care.

Now, after watching that overrated filth that is Cloverfield (I kid, I just like irritating people), I felt like watching another found footage film. Blair Witch Project sounded good, but I had to pass on it. There was Paranormal Activity, but…. I don’t care. But then I remembered that there was another, made 의해 the Spanish. And this was something that peaked my interest. The 2007 found footage… zombie? Film, REC

REC follows news reporter Angela and her cameraman Pablo as they film the night shift for a local 불, 화재 station for their late night news show. After getting a call about...

So, when 당신 read a fanfic that has some of the worst spelling ever, which is never supposed to be in a story, I die a little. But, this fanfic made me die 더 많이 than just a little. So, I present to 당신 all a Simpson’s Fanfic, known only as Lisa Get’s Pregnant. 당신 can’t make that stuff up. The author really thought this 제목 was appropriate.
So, we start with some of the worst spelling ever that makes 당신 think English was not the authors first language. So, the fanfic begins with Lisa and Bart trapped in a cave after snow collapsed on it. There is no reason 또는 explanation as to how this...

Okay… So I never actually played much Kingdom Hearts games. I played the first game with my friend, and thought, “Boy, this is fucking stupid, but I liked that gameplay. Maybe if they worked on the 글쓰기 a little more, I’d try out 더 많이 of this game”. And then I played Kingdom Hearts 2… The 글쓰기 never got better, but hey, who cares at this point. Let’s talk about how great Kingdom Hearts is.
So I did not play Chain of Memories before going into 2, (Mistake on my part), so I just read a few pages on the plot 설명 so I could be less confused, and came to the conclusion...

Why can’t people ever fix their security in prisons? I mean, for goodness sake, you’d think that after years of people breaking out through the sewage system Shawshank Redemption style, prisons would increase security, 또는 at the very least, use some stronger cell bars. But, no, they always leave one crack in their prisons to allow prisoners to escape… So, naturally, video games have quite a lot of those. In video games, it seems that getting out of those prisons are as easy as getting out of any. So, today, I want to share with 당신 all the ten best prison breaks in video games. First,...

I swear, this is starting to become a common thing. Anyway, here is another list of things that disturb me. Whether it’s movies, games, tv shows, and stories, as long as it is disturbing, it can go on the list. So, lets stop wasting time, lets get on with the list.

#10: Seikon no Qwaser - For once, I am going to look away from the creepy kind of disturbing and look over at the weird kind of disturbing. Now, Seikon no Qwaser is easily one of the most screwed up 아니메 I have ever seen in my life. There isn’t much to say about it other than it is about a boy who gets his special powers 의해 drinking...

Oh god, this 아니메 was depressing. The 아니메 is about a group of students who enter a high school that is a sort of limbo that is made to help the students pass onto the 다음 world. Here, they rebel against god, and fight against a girl named Angel. Now, if there is anything this 아니메 does right, it’s its story. It is just so original and something that hasn’t been done before and I 사랑 it. Another thing that needs to be pointed out is it’s animation. Sure, some of 당신 nitpickers out there will say it looks just about the same as any other anime, but then, that...

#30: Arthur

Here it is. The show of my childhood. Arthur was about a world of anthropomorphic animals, and the main one being Arthur, who lived in a simple town, and was taught new things, along with his friends. This show was on the PBS Channel and was made to be an educational show. Again, call me pathetic all 당신 want, but this show was amazing. The first time I saw this, I didn’t know how this was an educational show. I didn’t see the thing that I saw on all educational shows where the characters would talk about science, math, words, 또는 other stuff like that. But actually, this...

It is no surprise that I 사랑 the Persona franchise (And I assure you, I will be talking about the franchise later on this list), and it is clear that it has a ton of dark subjects in those games, but it always comes back to happy days, spending time with friends. And then Catherine comes along to turn those subject matters up to eleven.
Catherine follows Vincent Brooks, a huge loser of a guy who is scared of commitment to his girlfriend, Katherine, with a K. But things start to get real crazy when he starts to experience nightmares where he must climb a tower, and if he dies in the dream,...

I don’t play a lot of pixel art games. It’s not cause I hate them, it’s just that I never had the chance to experience them. I did play a few NES games and thought, “Yeah, that was okay”, but never anything that really gripped me and kept my attention. But then, something amazing happened. Indie games happened, the best genre of games that everyone should support. Know, murderers are a scary as hell. They basically have no purpose other than to murder people for their own amusment. So, its best to never go near one, obviously.
