Well, we’ve talked about two 아니메 that I love. So, why don’t we talk about an 아니메 that I cannot stand. Horror 아니메 isn’t like horror movies. There are many different kinds of them that are seen in 일본 and they are always so good to watch… most of the time. One instance of them not being that scary (Or that good in general), is a very 인기 아니메 that we’ll be looking at today. That 아니메 is Tokyo Ghoul… Already, I can hear people getting angry. (NOTE: I HAVE NOT READ THE MANGA! THIS IS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF SOMEONE WHO HAS ONLY SEEN THE ANIME! DON’T GET ANGRY AT ME, PLEASE!)
Tokyo Ghoul takes place in a world where creatures known as Ghouls roam the world, and eat the flesh of humans in order to survive. One character we meet is Kaneki…. UGH! A-anyway, Kaneki is at a restaurant with his friend, Hide. He’s incredibly useless throughout the first half, so ignore him. Kaneki meets this girl named Rize and he asks her out on a date. After their date, it turns out that Rize is a Ghoul and tries to kill Kaneki, but ends up dying. I find it funny how one of the strongest Ghouls in the entire series is killed within the first episode. Can 당신 imagine if all villains just died like that. It would definitely make the 히어로즈 job a lot easier. So, after Kaneki wakes up in the hospital, it turns out that the doctors transplanted his organs with Rize’s (Which is a terrible idea for a doctor to do, but whatever). This turns Kaneki into a Ghoul, and now, he must live out the rest of his days in a Ghoul cafe with other Ghouls… What a plot. Okay, so the plot isn’t that terrible… At least, for now. I guess I should mention a few pros about this show first. Let’s see. Pros….. Shuu Tsukiyama.
Shuu is, hands down, the best thing about Tokyo Ghoul. His personality is just hilarious. He always behaves dramatically and constantly tries to be suave and sophisticated, despite eating people and brutally beating individuals into the ground with a smile on his face. It’s just so much fun to watch. It also helps a ton that he happens to be voiced 의해 J Michael Tatum in the English dub, the same man that voiced Sebastian in Black Butler. He seems to have a very good way of voicing wonderfully dark characters in these sort of anime. But, is this one character enough to save this anime- No. I mean… Let’s see. The 아니메 has a lot of pretty good characters (Mostly). There’s Toka, a female Ghoul with some sort of mysterious past that I am very interested in. Yoshimura, the manager of the cafe, seems kind, but also has a few secrets to hide. Hinami, a young Ghoul who I just want to hug when that one episode came…. 당신 know the one. There’s Shuu, the greatest thing about this anime. Nishio, a stubborn and short tempered Ghoul that is a lot 더 많이 caring than he gives off. The human characters are also pretty interesting, all of them being flawed in their own way. No one is perfect, everyone manages to be different and damaged in their own way. But wait, what about Kaneki…. This is where the 아니메 falls flat.
Tokyo Ghoul has so many amazing characters, and I mean SO MANY! So it hurt me to know that Kaneki was the worst character of them all. It’s also a problem considering he’s the main character of the fucking show. What makes a good character, in my opinion, is how their motivated, what makes them change, and what their point of view is. This isn’t just for horror, but for all genres. So, Kaneki… Oh boy, his character. His motivations are to help the Ghouls from the organization that hunts them down, but the way his character… “develops” is so bad. He has only two personalities. He starts as a cry baby that gets beaten up once every episode. And 의해 the 초 season, he becomes some all powered 이모 that can defeat anyone. What kind of shift was that?! Yet, for some reason, everywhere I go, when it comes to 아니메 in general, people consider Kaneki to be one of the best 아니메 protagonists ever and Tokyo Ghoul as one of the best horror 아니메 ever. Sometimes they say it’s THE best. Yes, I know, everyone has different opinions, but… the very best, nothing can 상단, 맨 위로 it, ever, horror anime?! Really?! So, you’re saying that an 아니메 like Monster, a series that has a character try to stay pure without committing the unforgivable of murder, even if the person he wants to kill is the most evil person ever, and this conflict eats away at his mental state…. That doesn’t compare to 이모 super saiyan known as Kaneki?.... Alright. People even say that he has some of the best development ever. I’m sorry, but no. Not only is his development bad, in my eyes, but he has to be one of the WORST protagonists I’ve ever seen. He’s nothing but a snivelling whiner one season, and suddenly a bad 나귀, 엉덩이 the next. A horror 아니메 with good character development is Parasyte: The Maxim. The main character of that 아니메 behaves like a high school student would in his situation. He panics, is in denial, is paranoid, but never becomes some all powerful god. In fact, the parasite he has isn’t that strong, and he only managed to survive all his encounter with parasites through outsmarting them, not just “Punch this thing until it dies”. What do they think this is? A World of Warcraft boss? So, yeah, Kaneki’s character sucks. How does the rest of the 아니메 fair?
Okay, nope, the 초 half is bad. So, in the 다음 half, known as Tokyo Ghoul √A, after Kaneki’s 프렌즈 finally come and save him, he just says, “You know what… I’m gonna become a terrorist”. And that’s about right. He joins a Ghoul terrorist group of what looks like hipsters and emos to destroy the human organization, while also putting Kaneki’s 프렌즈 in danger. As if I needed 더 많이 reasons to hate on his character. So, now, after all the relationships Kaneki had with his friends, he just risks it all to destroy an organization. 당신 could say it’s justified, since they are killing Ghouls that do no harm to humans, but two wrongs don’t make a right. Tokyo Ghoul, 의해 this point, has made several wrongs. And none of them have made rights. Every time people complain about these parts, some 팬 says that they have to read the 망가 to understand it better. And, honestly, if I have to read the 망가 in order to better understand something that was left out of the 아니메 for no reason, that doesn’t make it better. In fact, if anything, it kinda makes it worse.
I don’t know what else I can say about this anime. I don’t like it. The first half was okay. The 초 half was crap. Kaneki sucked in both parts, so it doesn’t really matter when it comes to him. Tokyo Ghoul season three, titled Tokyo Ghoul:re, is coming out soon. I don’t know if I want to watch it. It’s just drained me 의해 this point. I’m sorry Shuu. 당신 may be the greatest closet homosexual 일본 has to offer, but I can’t be bothered to watch through this 아니메 just to get to you. I’ll just wait for someone to post a clip of it on Youtube. I’m done. I don’t like this anime. I’m going to 침대 and I’m going to cry. Take care.
