Actress CHERYL FRANCIS HARRINGTON has been telling her 프렌즈 about all her dating escapades for years. Now, she’s telling everyone in her new solo show “I MET SOMEONE!” which debuts at the Hollywood Fringe Festival this month.
Cheryl has earned a solid reputation as a stage actress in Los Angeles receiving an NAACP Image Theatre Award for her performance in the one act play “AH-Ha Moments: 버터 볼, 버터 스카치, 버터 & Fudge,” and was nominated for an LA Drama Critics 원, 동그라미 Award for her leading role as Annetta Barton in the Los Angeles Actors Theatre production of “Eden.” On the small screen, she’s lent her voice as series regular The Haiti Lady on Eddie Murphy's hit animated show “The PJ's” and has been seen on-camera in the 텔레비전 shows, including “Up All Night,” “Criminal Minds,” “Glee” and “Brothers & Sisters.” Some of her feature film credits include “The Under Shepard,” “Into the Wild,” “Sgt. Bilko” and “Lethal Weapon.”
I recently had a chance to catch up with this talented lady to find out 더 많이 about her new solo stage show “I MET SOMEONE!”
HOLLY: Tell us a little about your new solo show.
CHERYL: “I MET SOMEONE!” is the poignantly funny story of my winding escapades with the opposite sex. I share with 당신 highlights of my many of my male relationships going from one relationship to the next, with a seemingly endless parade of disappointing dates, sewn together 의해 years of self-help guru’s trying to assist my struggle to find ‘Mr. Right’ and my desperate attempts to make a meaningful connection with two father figures, both of whom I never come to know. Themes of self-esteem, belonging, and the tenuous structure of the contemporary black family quietly frame the edges of this riveting dramedy.
HOLLY: Where did 당신 find the inspiration for the show?
CHERYL: This is my life! I’ve longed for a relationship with a man, beginning with my Fathers. My desire to have a relationship has occupied 98% of my conversations. So I finally said let me get this off my chest. Besides I was tired of being lonely and complaining about it.
HOLLY: What’s been the biggest challenge working on this show? How about
the greatest reward?
CHERYL: The biggest challenge has been learning my lines -- LOL! Yes…I know I wrote it. I found because it is so truthful I have to tell myself that it is ‘ok’ to tell my story…give myself permission to share my story.
The biggest reward has been that I’m living my dream. I always said that if after 당신 see my performance and 당신 go 집 and are washing the dishes, and something I said causes a reaction in you, makes 당신 smile, alters your life in any way…then I’ve done my job. The reaction that people are having pleases and amazes me. Sure, I also want the TV series and the security of earning the required amount in Sag-Aftra to have Plan A Medical benefits.
HOLLY: What’s surprised 당신 the most while creating this show?
CHERYL: That I can write. When it comes from truth it just flows.
HOLLY: What would 당신 like audiences to take away after seeing your show?
CHERYL: Bloom where 당신 are planted, it’s never too late, have a glimmer of hope the size of a grain of sand. 당신 are enough. Repeat after me…I am, I am, I am!
We think so too, Cheryl!! Can't wait to hear even 더 많이 from 당신 in the future.
Keep shouting "I MET SOMEONE!"
