When I first woke up I had no idea where I was. This place looked old and creepy and dirty. When I sat up I finally realized where I was. I was in the church on 상단, 맨 위로 of 어치, 제이 Mountain. Johnny had killed a Soc. Quiet Johnny, the one that never talks, the one person that wouldn't hurt anyone 또는 anything on purpose, had killed a human being. We were really being chased 의해 the cops. Maybe after a few days everything will be alright. Maybe the cops would understand that Johnny was doing this for self defense. I mean after all the Socs had almost drowned my brother. Maybe the cops would let Darry, Sodapop, Ponyboy, and I still live together. Maybe Johnny wouldn't get the electric chair. Everything would be alright. But I knew that was very unlikely. I sighed and looked over at Ponyboy, who was sleeping a few feet away from me. Then I noticed Johnny wasn't here. Where could he be? Maybe the cops found us and took Johnny away. Then they would come back for us. I started panicing until I found something written in the dirt. "Gone for supplies. J.C." it read. I slowly relaxed and my breathing returned to normal. He just went for supplies. We hadn't been caught. We were still safe. For now. Ponyboy woke up a few 분 after I had. He started panicing about Johnny until I told him he went out for supplies like Dally told us to. Then he relaxed. It seemed like hours until Johnny came walking back to the church with two bags full. We started to go thruogh the bags when something caught Pony's eye. It was a book. Ponyboy's eyes lit up. "Hey Johnny, how did 당신 know that I wanted Gone With The Wind? "Well", Johnny said, "we went to see that movie and 당신 were talking about getting the book. I thought we could pass the time 의해 읽기 it aloud." He ment Ponyboy and I 읽기 it aloud. Johnny did go to school, but it takes him a while to understand things. His teachers get real frustrated. But when he does understand it sticks in his mind and doesn't leave. "Thanks Johnny." We started to pull even 더 많이 things out of the bags. Then I got to one item we weren't looking 앞으로 to. "Peroxide?", I asked. I caught the look on Ponyboy's face and instantly understood. "Were gonna cut our hair and 당신 two 또는 gonna bleach yours.", Johnny explained. "No Johnny! 당신 know how long it took me to grow my hair this long? And why do we have to bleach it?", I was yelling in spite of myself. I took the words right out of Pony's mouth. "They'll have our descriptions in the paper and we can't fit them.", he explained. He was looking at the floor. I felt real bad. I hadn't meant to yell. "Look Johnny, I didn't mean to yell it's just..", I started but Johnny cut me off. "I know, I didn't mean to surprise 당신 like this." "No really, i'm sorry.", I insisted. "It's ok. Come on let's get this thing over with. Which one of 당신 wants to go first?" "Ponyboy does!", I said volunteering Pony. He gave me a look. "Come on man, let's just get it over with." "Fine.", Ponyboy reluctantly agreed. Johnny started sawing away at Pony's hair. It looked uneven and Johnny was doing his best to make it straight. I cringed everytime Ponyboy yelled ouch. Then it was time to bleach it. After his hair was bleached, I had to do a double take to make sure he was my brother and not some weird farm boy that strolled up to the church just to see what was inside. Then it was my turn. I took a final look at my hair. It went all the way down to just below the middle of my back. I loved my hair as much as any greaser. I went and sat down ready to have it cut. "Not too short, please.", I begged. "No shorter than my sholders." This is not fair. We shouldn't have to be here. If Darry hadn't pushed Ponyboy we wouldn't be in this position. I once again thought that if our parents were alive we wouldn't be here. We would be 안전한, 안전 at home, warm, together. We would sneak some 초콜릿 cake for breakfast. We would be one happy family. But that was then. And here we are now. Runaway criminals cutting our hair so we could be disguised. I almost burst into tears. I wish this were all a dream and I would wake up at home, in my bed, safe. But I knew this wasn't a dream. It was to real. We were really in for it. I finally realized they were done with my hair. I wondered how long I had been sitting there. Now it was time to bleach. After sitting outside for fifteen 분 like 조랑말 my hair was done. I looked in the mirror we found. It didn't look as bad as I thought it would but it was still awful. I sighed. I guess we had this coming. Then it was time for Johnny. Once again, I cringed everytime I heard ouch. Then he went to go wash the grease out of it. "Are 당신 crazy? It's freezing out. You'll catch a cold.", 조랑말 exclaimed. "Well it's worth it if it means us not getting caught.", Johnny said sighing. I knew we couldn't talk him out of doing it, so we just let him, He washed it with the bar of soap he bought. I was grateful Johnny was with us. If it was Dally, Two-Bit, 또는 Steve with us that would have been one thing they would have forgot. Soap. "Well, I guess we're disguised.", I said and then sighed. "Oh shoot. Come on guys, it's just hair. It'll grow back." "Oh shoot nothing. It's not just hair. It's the only thing us greasers have. It's like a Holloween costume 당신 can't get out of and I hate it.", 조랑말 said, half talking, half yelling. "Come on guys, it's dark let's get to bed.", I quickly said before a fight could start. "Ya come on, i'm beat.", Johnny said. Once we were inside we instantly dozed off into a peaceful sleep. It was the most comfortable I had been in a long time.
