Personally, I think that 읽기 the book beforehand helps make the movie 더 많이 enjoyable, especially for people (like me :P) who don't know a whole lot about Greek Mythology. Not gonna lie, when I read it in school a few years back, it bored me to tears, but that made the movie so much 더 많이 of an eye-opener. It really brings the story to life and gives faces to the characters. The 연기 was really good IMO, for the most part. The emotions were real. The only real mistakes I noticed and can remember are when Achilles dies, 당신 can tell he's breathing, and when Eurymachus gets killed, his fingers move... a lot. But other than that, I thought it was great. I really bought into the characters.
I think Odysseus (Armand Assante) and Telemachus (Alan Stenson) were the best actors. I think they both did a really good job with showing anger/frustration, sadness/sorrow, and even impatience. I knew Odysseus was desperate to get 집 from 읽기 the book, but just couldn't feel it until watching it. All of them did well with showing desperation for his return throughout. Needless to say, the way he was always getting held back kinda makes 당신 feel sorry for him, lol. :P
Oh, and the suitors were all good at being obnoxious; gotta give 'em credit for that. ;D
Sure, certain parts of the movie were overly dramatic, but honestly, that can be looked past. Most of the negative 코멘트 I've seen are about it being too different from the book. But come on, no movie is going to be just like the book.
Since I found the book to be a bit dull, I didn't really comprehend all of it, so I wasn't sure what exactly was going to happen in certain parts. It really makes the movie suspenseful, which I love.
Oh yes, and suspense. The first time I watched it, I was like freaking out internally for Odysseus in some scenes... can't remember which ones, but I think the 언더월드 was one of them. Lol, I was probably thinking he was going to get attacked 의해 Hades 또는 something, I don't know. Totally sucked me in.
Another thing was the special effects. For a 90's movie, they were pretty decent to say the least. (Like the cyclops with the eye, Poseidon's face on the waves, etc.)
So, I guess all in all, this movie was different, in a good way, and really helped me understand the story. I'm honestly not exactly sure why I became so fond of it in the first place (I'm not all that into Mythology and whatnot), but... I did. The only thing I really wish they would've added is kind of how life was after he returned and reunited with Penelope and all. But hey, guess I can't be too picky. ;P
