i think this is a really good question. In the book, information about star's past is limited however there is a short conversation between her micheal " 'you and david...you seem very intune with each other. That is, 당신 seem very close-' 별, 스타 squeezed his hand 'I was just sleeping on the 바닷가, 비치 when david found me and brought me here' " also when asked about her family 별, 스타 replys "i miss them sometimes, really bad". So maybe she ran away from 집 and got caught up with the 로스트 boys. may not be true its just a theory :)

The clues are in the movie,what do 당신 see allot of the background to lostboys??....RUNAWAY/MISSING POSTERS...Yeah some of those posters are for the victims of the LBs but most of the group are runnaways!..Try to find the graphic novels,they will fill in allot 더 많이 of the blanks that the book will!!!...Hope that help's some! :)
