Couples and how they're taking over television!

Spuffy, Bangel, Tillow, Merder, Gizze, 홍어, 스케이트 & Jate.
Just a handful of tvs most famous couples, these couples have people glued to there screens and in my opinion its for all the rong reasons.
I have never and probably will never watch a show because of that shows couples. I think its silly that spots are choc full of people getting seriously angry at each other because there not Spuffy 또는 Chlois.
Shows are now remembered for there couples. Im going to take Buffy as my first example, what I remember that show for is its excellent storylines and intriuging characters but from several sites it seems that people only remember it for its couples. The big 로스트 debates are not about The Others 또는 The Black Smoke 또는 O6 theroies they are Jate and 홍어, 스케이트 debates. Personaly I see the couples on these shows to be the least important storylines.
Now dont get me wrong on shows like Greys Anatomy relationships are the main story arcs and I 사랑 that show however on shows like Buffy, 로스트 and 스몰빌 i think that relationships play far to big a part in the minds of the 팬 when there is a bigger story to be told.

amazondebs for shows like buffy and smallville there are often other debates about storylines too but it's human nature to love the couples best and especially in supernatural shows where they are put in usual circumstances and personally i love a good bit of spuffy vs bangel because it's where all the controversial topics lie such as the idea of souls and the idea of forbidden love and the reaction of buffy's friends and family and also about buffy herself even though these shows are about the supernatural a lot of the storylines still revolve around the couples and relationships because thats the real interest if the characeters all had basic relationships the show would be boring no matter how many baddies and action scenes you had and if people want to debate them in the vs spots then i'm all for it good topic though

HannaK I understand why you think that, but I absolutely do not agree. It are the couples and relationships that make sure that the show has a sort of 'human' element in it. The thing with couples is that you can totally lose yourself in it, and altough you know that it will never happen to you, you can still dream and think about these couples and relationships and hope that you will experience something similair like those couples. Sure, I really don't wanna go trough al those trouble (almost being murderd, cheating, drowning and gods knows what all those couples go trough) but, take JAM (Jim and Pam, the Office) for example, I just love them and I hope that someday, I will be a bit like them. But I really understand how you feel but I just love couples too much, it is what makes the shows work

Gstine I kind of agree with you. I've always liked relationships in shows as a secondary plot-line. It's good to have a couple that you're rooting for (and sometimes even a couple that you're rooting against), so long as it doesn't dominate an otherwise interesting show. However, there is such a thing as overkill. I stopped posting on the Office spot as much because all the talk revoloved around whether or not Pam and Jim are gonna get married and have babies. There are 15 main characters on this show and all people can talk about is one relationship. It's just wrong.

knifewrench It's actually what puts me off about some shows, when they focus so much on the storyline that nothing else seems to happen. Good article :)

DrDevience I do agree with this. Kids are wanting to turn these shows into freakin soap operas. I got so sick of the Bones uproar over that stupid kiss that I stopped watching the show altogether.

HannaK Well, I do agree that there is more then just the couples, I mean, sometimes I do think that people just have to shut the hell up about them, because I think that a good plot is more important, but I still love them!

ineedcoffee I actually unfaned from grey's spot because of all the shipping on there not alot about the show, and some of it got so bad they started making up couples that don't even exist.

amazondebs ineedcoffee, couples that don't exist are actually really popular althought their normally called fannon or fan-fic but i do draw the line at argueing shipping of them in the main spot, e.g. there's a seperate spangel spot for that fan-fic couple

NikaDawson Fanon couples are really popular. In fact, sometimes they are more popular than canon couples in a lot of fandoms, especially for fanfic writer's. Example: There's a lot more fanfics in Harry Potter for the fanon slash couple Harry/Draco then there is the canon couple Harry/Ginny. Spangel is a fanon/sort of canon couple in Buffyverse that's very popular, and there are even seperate very large sites for couples like Willow/Spike, Willow/Angel, Spike/Xander, exc. I think when it comes to supernatural shows, couples are part of the storylines and they are really so much a part of the show it's hard to do without them. Like in Buffy when Spike goes to get his soul as a storyline, that was because of him being in a relationship with Buffy.

lexybabe88 I agree...like with "roswell" for example how they made liz and max the core focus when it's supposed to be about aliens. i think if the show is good, that's great, but don't put the couples over the actual story that made the show. Unless the idea is "Romeo & Juliet:the show" where the couple is the story.

BeccyBear Where's the mention of Cangel. It's only the best couple of all time. And you didn't mention it. For Shame.
