I don't think he's very much like either of them to tell you the truth. On the surface he resembles John, but he definitely doesn't have John's lust for revenge. And although deep down he wants a normal life, he would never turn his back on his family to get it like Mary did.

He has a personality of his own.

We haven't actually gotten to know Mary the way we know John in the show, but from the episodes when we met young Mary I've come to think Dean is more like his mother and Sammy his father.

I think he's a lot like John, in that hunting is his life and he can never settle down into an apple-pie life because he is such a devoted hunter.

he tries to be like his father, but he just can't. he wants a family and a normal life just like mary did :)

at this moment he's acting more like Mary wanting out of the family business & Sam's acting more like John wanting to rid the world of demons. Season one the roles were reversed.

I think he has a little bit more of Mary in him than John, but I think he's pretty unique and different than both of them!
