100 themes challenge 1
-Introduction-

The wounds were always fresh in the beginning, like when a blade pierces one’s flesh and the blood seeps down. At first, it’s always just shock. Not long after comes the pain. Over time, wounds heal, and eventually go away altogether, like a scab long since picked and flicked under the couch.
That is, of course, the nicest way for any sort of pain to occur. There are other ways- less pleasant ways. The things that keep 당신 up all night, crying softly into your pillow, not wanting to fall asleep in fear of reliving those painful memories- But likewise, when wounds are fresh they hurt so much more.
Everyone has hurt some time in their life, and everyone will again. It always goes like that. But in that way, it allows us to be introduced to the people who really matter- The ones who aren’t the high-flyers, there in your moments of happiness and glory, but the ones who’ll stick through the rain and torture with you. The ones who, in your time of loneliness, will pick 당신 up and walk 당신 to where 당신 need to go. The ones worth fighting for.
Shane knew this very well. He had learnt it in his own moment of pain, after his wife-to-be, Gena, had died, leaving him with a son he hadn’t planned on raising on his own and a huge hole in his life and mentality. A huge hole in everything he thought he knew.
The blow was devastating to him, obviously. Everything had stopped. He hadn’t been outside his crappy little apartment in weeks, surviving off 음식 his good friend Mother dropped off every now and then. His physical state had deteriorated- The fit, slim man was long gone. His quills grew in every direction and hadn’t been cleaned in too long. Things were falling apart.
Concerned for his collapsing mental state, Mother had booked him into a psychologist- A young woman named Karya, who’d worked with soldier’s suffering from depression before.
Which was why Mother was driving a rather unimpressed Shane to said psychologist in her bright red Jeep. Shane hadn’t wanted to go, but Mother had guilt-tripped him 의해 pouting and saying that she’d already paid for his sessions.
“Don’t worry ‘bout it, Scarecrow! You’ll 사랑 her. She’s so sweet! You’ll get on just fine.” Mother said, smiling encouragingly at her broken leader, “You’ll hit it off right away. Best buddies in no time!”
“Heh...” Shane smiled sadly, “Yeah, I trust your judgement. It’s just... I don’t want to have to do anything like this... Makes me feel weak.”
“You really need to lighten up. We’re all sad about her, man. We all miss her, but she wouldn’t want 당신 going off and killing yourself.”
“Good point...” Shane said with a slight wince, remembering just that time. It had been Mother who had convinced him not to pull that trigger.
“We’re here!” Mother grinned, jumping out of the car in the blink of an eye, before swinging around to Shane’s side to open the door for him, from there bowing to him as he stepped out with a silly, but respectful, “Captain,” and a salute.
A slight smile touching his face, Shane jumped out of the car- Having to jump, because unlike Mother, he was not possessed of abnormally long legs- and landing right in her outstretched arms, bridal style.
Well... Good thing not ALL of his humour was crushed... Mother thought as she carried him into the foyer to sit and wait.
It wasn’t long before a lovely, blue-quilled Hedgehog walked out holding a clipboard, asking for a ‘Mr Sullen for 4 o’clock.’
“Uh... Hi...” Shane said awkwardly, pushing his glasses further up his nose to better hide his scars.
“Hello, Shane.” She smiled at him warmly, “I’m Karya, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you! I’ve heard a lot about 당신 from your dear friend Mother, here.”
It wasn’t long before, in the privacy of Karya’s office, Shane and her had been properly introduced and were talking very openly about what Shane’s problem was.
