I guess one reason for him to ask Harry to look at him was that he still saught Lily's forgiveness in her son's eyes (beside wanting his last vision to remind him of the love of his life). Only death could grant him that forgiveness. That's part of his being a tragic hero, that only death could redeem. Poor soul ! posted over a year ago.
