BlackHound If you're not familiar with [i]The Crow[/i], read the original graphic novel by James O'Barr, watch the original movie that Brandon Lee died while making. I give [i]The Crow[/i] my highest recommendation. Brutal subject matter, but so is the basic story of [i]Harry Potter[/i], and for me Eric Draven (Brandon's character) is just as profound as Severus Snape.

LadyNottingham I checked the Wikipedia article about the movie and it looks really, really interesting ! If I have the opportunity to watch that movie or find the DVD, I will. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crow_(film) Brutal indeed but the HP saga is not lacking in this department either. I'm always amazed when I read accounts of parents bringing their young children (6-8 years old, for example) to see the last HP movies, whom I think contains very strong themes that a young child cannot dealt with yet. Just my opinion.

BlackHound LN, I feel you are correct. I work with someone whom I have noticed shares some of my literary tastes. I asked her if she's read HP and she told me she can't stand Harry Potter. She's never read them. She thinks they're for kids. I just looked at her and thought [i]"you just have no fking idea what you're talking about."[/i] I didn't [i]say[/i] that, of course, but I sure thought it. This story is an eternal one, a story we've been telling each other for millenia, about Good and Evil, love and loss, and what we'll do to avenge terrible wrongs...an author can dress the story in a variety of ways, but ultimately, it's not something that's [i]just for kids.[/i] In the case of the Harry Potter saga, the story "grew up" so to speak, because the central characters did. Unfortunately, some parents don't take that into account.
