Only one in 100 people would want to swap places with Kate Middleton – has the public’s view of Kate changed?

Kate Middleton has perfectly swishy hair and a highly prosperous husband and great career prospects – yet only 1 per cent of people would want to trade places with her.
Only 11 per cent say they’d like to experience the Duchess of Cambridge’s life for one day, and just under a third say they’d like to be friends with Kate, according to a poll by YouGov commissioned by Newsweek.
Meanwhile, two thirds of men say they’d rather not be friends with, dating or married to Kate.

If you were best friends with Kate, what would you like to do together?
Of course, this is not the first time a survey has revealed surprising results about the public’s attitude towards Kate Middleton. As the future Queen of England, the Duchess of Cambridge has been the subject of scrutiny and divided opinions ever since her relationship with Prince William was revealed.
YoGov monitors public opinion of the Duchess of Cambridge and find that 98 per cent of feelings towards Kate are positive, which gives her a controversy rating of just 2 per cent. Strangely, those who like Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, also tend to like The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, aged 13 ¾, the Oxford English Dictionary, and Milky Way chocolate bars. Perhaps less surprisingly, they also enjoy the Daily Mail newspaper.
A year after Kate Middleton married her prince, the vast majority thought that she had improved the image of the Royal Family, while a YouGov word cloud found that many think she performs her duties “well”.
Meanwhile, a series of lists have wildly different interpretations of Kate Middleton’s power. She made Time magazine’s 100 most influential people alongside her husband in 2011, and was featured again – alongside her sister this time – in 2012. But the Duchess of Cambridge did not feature in Woman’s Hour’s list of the 100 most powerful people in the UK – although her grandmother-in-law came top.
Prince William and Kate Middleton were ranked no. 18 on Tatler’s most invited list in 2010 – below Prince Harry and Chelsy Davy, Ralph Fiennes and Lady Amanda Harlech, and David Walliams and Lara Stone.
Polls also noticed that a significant proportion of the public don’t seem to care about Kate Middleton. Before the wedding, 45 per cent said they thought Kate would make a good Queen, but 46 per cent said they weren’t sure or simply didn’t care.
And despite the prevalence of Kate Middleton photographs across newspapers and magazines, it seems many were concerned that Royal Wedding coverage would be excessive and boring.
Kate Middleton may have completed her first three years as a Royal with nary a faux pas and a truly adorable heir – but there’s just no pleasing everyone.
