My company gives free flu shots so I get one every year. They defintely help, but I have caught the flu despite getting it. You still need to be careful, take vitamins, and avoid people with the flu.

Flu shots are a little weird. Basically, they inject a weakened strain of the flu into you, and that helps your immune system build antibodies to fight it. Of course, those antibodies don't protect you against ALL flu strains, just common ones. I recommend getting a flu shot to anyone, they really do help.

I dunno. I think getting sick every now and again is good for you. Keeps your immune system in fighting shape.

I think that they do, at least pretty well. Last winter my dad and I both got the flu and neither of us had gotten our flu shots, while my mom, who had, never got sick at all... So I think that they generally do.

Gstine picked It will help, but it isn't foolproof:
The first year that I got one, I didn't get sick at all. And it was amazing because there was a particularly bad flu outbreak that year and I always get sick. The second year that I got it, I got sick for a couple days but not horribly so. I haven't gotten one in a few years because they've been in such short supply lately.
