Day 6
(Eve’s POV)
I had Skipper called up again. I need some layout. I gestured for him to go into an examination room when Briana and Daniel caught my eye. They were looking at me giggling. I rolled my eyes and went into the examination room, shutting the door behind me.
“Alright Skipper. Anything I can use?”
“Well…The fence around the courtyard is about 30 feet high topped with thick coiled barbed wire. From the middle of the courtyard 당신 can see a watch tower approximately 100 yards away from the fence at the northeast, east, southeast, and southwest directions. The hallway from the cell block to the courtyard has about eight cameras at about fifty feet intervals. From the cellblock to mess hall there are about three cameras at about 100 feet intervals.”
“Wow, someone’s getting specific.” I said taking mental notes. “Now to get some medical notes. Can’t very well call 당신 in here without getting your information.” I set my clipboard on the examination 표, 테이블 and took off my stethoscope. Here’s where the awkward part came. In order to get an accurate heartbeat I had to unbutton the 상단, 맨 위로 of his jumpsuit. I put my flipper through and pressed the stethoscope to his muscular chest smiling shyly. The sound of his heartbeat reminded me of the first night we spent together. His gentle heartbeat lulling me to sleep.
“Enjoying yourself?” Skipper said grinning foolishly. I put my stethoscope back around my neck as I said: “Keep it up and I’ll draw some blood.” Skipper made a backing off motion, though still grinning.
I then got ready to take his blood pressure. When he stuck out his flipper he deliberately flexed his muscle. I playfully pushed his shoulder and I think I’m blushing. After finally getting and jotting down his blood pressure, I asked: “Have 당신 been feeling alright lately?”
“Yeah, but my vision’s been going in and out lately.”
This concerned me. “Really?” I asked as I shined a light into his eyes. 당신 know he has such beautiful blue eyes.
“No.” I dropped my flippers down to my sides.
“Then why did you…” I crossed my flippers when I realized he’d only said that to get me to look into his eyes.
“Oh come on. Give me a break. 당신 know I haven’t done this in two days.” He got to his feet, wrapped his flippers around me, and pressed his beak to mine. Damn he’s a good kisser. The moment was interrupted when we heard the door open.
We looked over and saw Daniel standing in the doorway, mouth gaping. I pushed off of Skipper and took a few steps closer to her. “Daniel…this isn’t what it looks like.” At that moment she shifted her weight onto one leg, crossed her flippers, and smiled slyly.
“Just a patient huh? Don’t worry, I won’t tell no one. You’re not the only one to have the hots for an inmate.” She winked at me. I rolled my eyes.
“What do 당신 want Daniel?”
“I was just wondering if 당신 had a spare pen. 당신 don’t have to get snippy.”
“Sorry.”
“All’s forgiven.”
“I mean; sorry I don’t have a pen.”
Daniel rolled her eyes and on the way out just before she shut the door all the way she said: “Don’t get too acquainted in there now.”
“Daniel!” I cried just as she shut the door behind her. I grunted in frustration and when I turned around, Skipper was suppressing a laugh.
“What are 당신 on about now?”
He said while laughing: “I’m sorry!”
“Oh shut up!” I said making a 펀치 at his shoulder, but he grabbed my flipper and pulled me close. “We’re going to get caught again.”
“You’re gonna let that stop you?”
“If it interferes with getting 당신 out of here, yes.”
“Killjoy.” Skipper muttered playfully as he let me go. I walked to the door, opened it, and we left the room. Skipper was escorted out of the infirmary.
(Skipper’s POV)
Walking back to the cell block I wondered why my beak had a mild coffee taste to it, then I remembered my 키스 with Eve. Lucky her. I haven’t had my 물고기 coffee in days and I think I’m having withdrawals. I hadn’t taken three steps into the cell block when Snake stepped in my path. I rolled my eyes and said: “What do 당신 want?”
“We need to talk Fish.”
“About what?”
“Follow me.” Something was telling me not to, but I ignored it and followed Snake to his cell. He told one of his 프렌즈 to guard the cell while we talk.
“Alright. I’m here. What do 당신 want?”
“I know you’re planning to escape. And you’re gonna include my boys and I in.”
“I dunno what you’re talking about.”
“Don’t play dumb with me. 새우 told me 당신 said 당신 were.”
“That was before. I thought my 프렌즈 were still in trouble. I recently found out they’re fine. Knowing that, I’m going to do my time.” Wow…when did I get so good at lying?
“I just don’t believe that Fish. You’re going to include us in your plans to escape.”
“I just told 당신 I’m not escaping.”
“Well 당신 are now whether 당신 want to 또는 not.”
“Or you’ll what?”
“I’m sure 당신 would hat to see something happen to Susan. Or, what was it 당신 said? Eve?”
My 심장 sunk. I guess he eavesdropped on my conversation with Hans.
“You wouldn’t dare hurt her.” I said knowing it’d be pointless to deny any longer.
“Oh I wouldn’t. But imagine the hell she’d go through if Manor figured her out.”
“Look, even if I wanted to, how are six inmates, a nurse, and a janitor all supposed to escape a prison at once?”
“I don’t know. 당신 figure it out.”
Well isn’t this lovely. Guess I shoulda seen it comin’.
“What happens if I fail?”
“Now…I don’t think 당신 wanna know.”
“ ‘s that a threat?”
“A promise.”
Suddenly my first encounter with Eve flashed through my mind. It’s hard to believe it was just about two weeks 이전 this had all started. Snake blew smoke in my face just as I passed him and I 로스트 it. I snatched that wretched cigarette out of his mouth, dropped it on the ground and stomped it out as I passed him. When I met back up with Hans, I told him the bad news.
“We have a problem.”
“What now?”
“That idiot Snake found us out. We have to include him and his gang in the escape.”
“Or what?”
“Or they’ll get Eve in trouble. The last thing we need is to worry about her getting a court marshall.”
“Well this is just great. Now the five of us has to break out of here?”
“Six. Don’t forget Rico.”
“Even better…You should have been 더 많이 careful about where we spoke in the first place.”
That did it. I grabbed him 의해 the 칼라 and pinned him to the wall.
“Oh yeah? Well [/i]you[/i] should’ve been 더 많이 careful who 당신 made a deal with. If you hadn’t tried to nail me to Denmark then we both wouldn’t be in this mess. Just be lucky that the only good thing that came out of this is that we saved Eve and her sister.”
“So good to see you’re finally expressing your feelings!”
“You think this is a joke? 당신 know what Hans? Yes! I 사랑 Eve! I’ll scream it from the rooftops! I don’t give a damn what 당신 have to say about it! But that’s not the issue at hand here is it?! You are going to do everything I say! And if 당신 don’t 또는 if anything happens to my team 또는 Eve, I will kill you! Understood?”
For a moment I stared hard into his fear-filled eyes as he nodded slightly. I then pushed off of him letting go of his collar, turned around, sat down in my bunk and crossed my flippers, trying to calm down. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Hans just standing there…staring at me.
“If you’re gonna say something, say it. If not, then stop staring at me.”
At first there was a pause, then he said: “You’re right.” I perked up my head.
“Excuse me?” I said, not believing what he’d just said.
“You’re. Right. I should’ve known Alastair was going to double-cross me. I’m sorry.”
“Exactly.”
“Hey, I apologized. To 당신 of anybody. That’s not something you’re going to hear twice.”
“You’re right. But what I said still applies.”
“Fair enough.”
With that he got in his bunk, and neither of us said a word.
(Infirmary)
Daniel and Briana were walking down a hallway talking quietly.
“So I walked in and you’ll never guess what they were doing.” Daniel was saying.
“What?” Briana asked in eager curiosity.
“They were totally making out!”
“Aw, lucky her. I knew they liked each other.”
“Me too.”
Just then Manor approached them.
“Hello ladies. How are we today?” He asked gentleman-like.
“Hello Sergeant Manor. We’re fine; and you?” Daniel asked cheerily.
“Very good thank you. And what are we talking about?”
“Oh we’re just talkin’ girl stuff. 당신 know, boys and stuff.”
“Ah I see. Um, speaking of boys, do 당신 know who’s been treating that new inmate? Oh, what was his name? Skipper?”
“Susan’s been the only one to treat him since he arrived.”
“Oh really? And why is that?”
“I dunno…um, she’s probably just lucky that way.” Briana said, trying to take up for Eve. “Why do 당신 wanna know?”
“Oh, I just wanted to take a look at how he’s doing. Ladies.” He said with a nod and heading toward the 심장 of the infirmary.
Once there, he located Eve and approached her. “Good morning Nurse Susan. Can we talk?”
“Um…sure Sergeant Manor. What seems to be the problem?”
“I’d prefer we talk in private.” The two of them walked into an empty examination room and shut the door behind them. “Uh…Nurse…I wanted to ask 당신 about something.”
Eve began to feel uncomfortable. “What’s that then?”
“How do 당신 know that new inmate, Skipper?”
Eve swallowed hard and answered: “I don’t understand your question.”
“You mean 당신 don’t know him personally?”
“No, he’s just my patient. I haven’t seen him before I saw him for the first time a few days ago. Why?”
“It’s just that I find it strange that just a few days after Skipper’s capture 당신 show up and are the only one to treat him.”
“‘t doesn’t mean I know him personally. It’s just a coincidence.”
“I don’t believe in coincidences.”
“So you’re calling me a liar?”
“No, but…if I find out 당신 are lying…” He took a few steps closer to her until they were face to face. “there will be dire consequences. 당신 understand that don’t you?”
Eve stared hard back into his eyes, keeping a straight face she said: “I do. I’m not lying.”
“I sure hope you’re not.” Manor pushed past her and left the examination room.
(Kowalski’s POV)
Right now I’m in mess hall cleaning up after the breakfast rush. It was pretty empty except for the cooks who were busy cleaning the 부엌, 주방 area. I was busy sweeping when Manor entered. What does he want? He approached me and said: “Morning George.”
Ugh…I regret using that as my alias. I just don’t feel like a ‘George’.
“Morning Sergeant Manor. ‘s there a problem?”
“Oh no, no problem at all. I was just wondering how 당신 were doing in your position here in Vestre.”
“Position…as…a janitor.”
“I guess that was a silly 질문 wasn’t it? Look, the real reason I’m here is to apologize for going through your things. It was uncalled for and rude. 당신 see, that new inmate, I just feel like he’s planning something, and since 당신 were new here…I just felt I needed to take…extra precautions. 당신 understand?”
“I think so. But I can assure you, I don’t know any of these inmates. There’s no need to worry about me.”
At that moment he smiled. It was a smile like he somehow knew I was lying. I casually leaned against the 비, 빗자루 and he sighed. “Alright. All’s forgiven?”
“All’s forgiven.”
“Fantastic.” With a nod he left and I continued sweeping. I couldn’t help but think that this operation was about to take a bad turn.
(Cell Block)
“So what are we going to do?” Hans asked from the entrance to their cell. He was going to be sure no one was listening on them this time.
“I’m going to have to tell Eve and hope they can come up with a way out of this.” Skipper answered.
“You’re going to need to go to the infirmary again? Won’t they get suspicious of Eve treating 당신 every time 당신 go?”
“Well what else am I supposed to do?”
“Didn't 당신 say Kowalski was working as a janitor?”
“Yeah, but I don’t know how I’d get a message to him.”
Both of them went deep in thought, trying to figure out how on Earth they were going to pull this off. This need to go down soon. The five of them won’t be able to sneak around like this for much longer.
