Shortly after New Religion's album was released, Paul was able to put pressure on his ankle. He still had to rest it as much as possible, so he didn't go out much. One evening, while his mates were out getting 공식 만찬, 저녁 식사 to bring home, Paul heard "I Could've Lied" on the radio. He wondered if Rosa had heard it yet. Just then, he heard his cellphone ring. He reluctantly hobbled over to his dresser to answer it. It was his mother. She said, "I just heard your song on the radio. Was your breakup with Rosa the reason 당신 wrote it?" He said, "Yes, Mother." She asked, "What truth did 당신 admit?" He said, "I'm an aromantic asexual, Mother. I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I was afraid 당신 would be disappointed." She said, "Dear, sweet Paul, I could never be disappointed in you." He said, "But I thought 당신 wanted grandchildren." She said, "I may not have human grandchildren, but 당신 gave me wonderful granddogs, Yukon and Nunavut." Paul smiled and said, "I had the pleasure of raising two great dogs." His mother said, "You know, sometimes I think about Yukon, and I just cry." Paul said, "I know, Mother. I miss him, too." She asked him, "Are 당신 going to get another dog someday?" He said, "Yes, but I want to take time to come to terms with what happened." She said, "I understand. Now, about your being an aromantic asexual..." He stammered, "Y-yes?" She said, "I always knew 당신 were different, Paul. I have always accepted that, and I loved 당신 from the 일 I met 당신 and your father. I will always 사랑 you." Paul choked. "I 사랑 you, too, Mother." She said, "I really 사랑 your song. You're good at songwriting." He said, "Thank you, Mother. Take care." She said, "Same to you."
