The coda was really good. Loved the meaningful, classic OTH voiceovers by Brooke & Nathan. And I loved Mouth in this episode. Other than that... same old, same old...

Still don't care about Clay & Quinn. Their exit from the hospital was so dumb. Getting all dressed up? Confetti? Really lol? Still don't care about Chase & Alex. As usual, Mark is trying to make them seem way too serious, way too fast. Yes, they've had their cute moments, but I'm still not buying the "I'll come back for you, we'll make this work" crap. Still don't care about Victoria, and the clothes over
Bros situation. I've been done with that storyline for a while now.

So the only things that saved this episode for me was the coda, Mouth, and ofcourse Brulian.

I agree with kellyerin87 that the coda was what made the episode. It seems like for the past 3 episodes I have thought the episode was only okay, but I loved the ending. And while it's great to have a good ending... I don't want to watch the whole episode waiting for the ending to be great.
But there were some parts of the episode I did really like...

1- The BEST part in my opinion (besides the ending of course) was Brooke telling Victoria not to call her stupid. I don't know why but I really thought that scene was great... and that line especially. I just love the way she says "this was the last time you will ever call me stupid."
2- Victoria calling her stupid. No, I didn't like it--- but I thought it was about time we saw some of the old Victoria. She has been this fake loving mother for a while now and it seems like a bit too much of change in my opinion. People change but she was becoming a little too soft, so this made her character more realistic.
3-Nathan and Brooke. Loved the comparisons between their lives.
4- Julian was such a cutie in the episode... between giving the glove to Jamie (and the fact that he ran around in the field chasing butterflies while everyone else played baseball was ADORABLE!), the man purse, cheering up Brooke, and his scenes with Mouth. I loved him in this episode.
5- Clay and Nathan... I really like their friendship.

But I really didn't care about Quinn & Clay... I don't mind them but I find them kind of boring.
I don't like how Brooke says she is giving back money to her investors b/c they believed in her. She's giving back money to her investors b/c they were lied to. As Victoria said last episode... when you invest money in a company, you are gambling. If it was guaranteed that you wouldn't lose your money and you'd make more money- then everyone would do it. But it's not a guarantee. So she's giving them their money back not because they believed in her and ended up losing money.... she's giving them back their money because they were lied to and were not given the information in order to make a properly informed decision about where to invest their money.
And what was with Haley telling Brooke- you were "sad about a boy." Does Lucas not have a name?? Is he not close friends with both of them that he was just some random guy that Brooke dated? I don't know why, but that really bugged me.

But the ending really was a great ending... and I really do love how they were making a parallel between Nathan & Brooke's lives.

I'M COMMENTING IN PEACE! lol just throwing my interpretation out there. I think it's just because of the fact that the purpose of that scene wasn't to talk about BL. It was just to compare her past situation with "a boy" and her business, to the current situation. The purpose was really to talk about Brulian, and how Haley thought that Brooke should be focusing on Julian now, instead of her work. And bringing up BL would kind of take away from the whole point of the convo, which was supposed to be Brulian's happiness and future... Not BL's relationship in the past. Atleast that's how I interpreted it all. Besides, we all knew who she was talking about. I don't really think his name was needed.

I think it's clear that Mark is trying to keep his audience moving forward with the current couples. As opposed to staying in the past, talking about previous high school relationships. Brooke is engaged to Julian now. And Lucas is married to Peyton. So there's really no real reason to keep addressing BL's past. They've all moved on from that. Realistically, the characters wouldn't still be talking about BL, this far down the road. Yes, they may occiassionally refer to past situations, but Mark still wants to keep the focus on the current couples that have been formed today, not the past couples. However, he knows that BL still have a big fanbase, and I think that's a big part of why that comparission was even brought up. Mark saw it as an opportunity to atleast acknowledge Brooke's past situation with "a boy" (being Lucas), to show BL fans that they do still know that BL happened... whether his name was mentioned or not. Atleast their past was somewhat mentioned.

Again though, this is all just my opinion. It's hard for me to understand the frustration, but then again... I'm not a BL fan. This is just MY view. Hope I didn't offend anyone, or step on any toes :)

kellyerin87, I totally understand where you're coming from and what you're saying. I just thought it was incredibly strange that they didn't use Lucas's name. I wasn't annoyed b/c it was BL- I was annoyed because it was Lucas. But I think it was intentionally left as him not being named because it was BL and not because it was Lucas. I mean if Haley was talking to Brooke about the night of the boy toy auction back in the day and said "when I had bought my friend"-- I would have been like- what? are they talking about Lucas? He has a name.
If this was Felix... I think it would make sense. But because it was Lucas, one of their best friends- it was a little weird.
I agree that there is no point in focusing on the past and past relationships... in fact I'm starting to think the whole "Dear Lucas" thing is a little tiresome b/c he's not on the show anymore, so at a point- stop referring to past characters, story lines, and relationships. But the episode did bring up a BL scene...
and it was more that they wanted to bring up a BL scene without acknowledging it as BL, so they said it was with some boy- instead of saying it was Lucas. So it sort of felt like they wanted to mention BL, and mention the fact that she started her company while she was heartbroken... but they didn't want to actually bring up Lucas's name and remind viewers about BL.

I know I was TOTALLY looking into it too much... but this was really my first reaction. It just seemed so strange to me that they have been mentioning Lucas's name so much in the past few episodes... yet when they are actually referring to Lucas and it would finally be appropriate to use his name, they call him "a boy"- as if he was just anybody on the show.

Okay, I'm just being honest right now: I'm a little disappointed in season 8 so far. The most incredible thing of season 8 is still the season premier imo and the best thing in 8x05 was the coda along with some really cute scenes but that's not really the point, isn't it? An episode has to be fascinating from the very first minute till the last one and it just didn't imo. It's so hard to say that right now xD
And what's with the Lux crossover and the roadtrip that was announced in the promo??? O.O

^^ When Haley and Mia were going to perform in Portland... what that really meant was they were going on Life Unexpected. So the two characters were on the show. I watched it cause I wanted to see what they would do, but I had never seen Life Unexpected before. I was not interested in any of the story lines, but they had a lot of really great artists perform (I adore Ben Lee and Sara McLachlan... they are two of my favorite artists). And it was kind of cute how they brought in OTH story lines (like Haley discussing how she got pregnant in HS and is now pregnant again, how she discovered Mia's talent, or when she mentions how her mom died last year... or when other characters talk about Haley and how she is married to a retired NBA player)

Basically it was the CW's way of trying to get more people to watch Life Unexpected so they had a couple of OTH characters go on the show.
