The ABCs of Olicity, the Sizzling Romance 'Arrow' Deserves
\'s Oliver Queen may be a one-man army of abs and justice, but when the man under the hood needs a hand (or a hack) he relies on his girl, Felicity Smoak. The two first formed an unconventional friendship, anchored by vigilantism, but it\'s their undeniable chemistry — a strange, alluring mixture of the awkward, the sincere, and the downright hot — that has fans declaring OTP (one true pairing) status for Oliver and Felicity.
Right this way, my friend. We\'ve put together a handy primer for both the newbie and advanced \'shipper.
No helpless damsel here. Felicity may leave the butt-kicking to Oliver, but she\'d never even be a part of Team Arrow without her dazzling array of computer talents. Oh, and Oliver? Yeah, he has some assets too, we guess. Notably, ones that require him to hang from the ceiling — observant Felicity on hand to watch, of course.
The strong and silent type is nice, but a good relationship can\'t be all brood and brawn. Felicity brings out another side of Oliver, usually with a stream of mile-a-minute words.
As Oliver tells Felicity, "You’re not my employee. You’re my partner." Sure, she was technically his subordinate, but their professional (and personal) relationship moved way past that.
Olicity doesn\'t just spend their days in angst — they crush crime. They\'re basically a modern-day Robin Hood and his Q.
Oh you delightful Canadian, you. Rickards turned a one-episode role into a beloved character the show couldn\'t do without. Her Felicity effortlessly conveys compassion and intelligence — not to mention heat with Oliver. (Well, heat... And awkwardness.)
A rekindled relationship between Oliver and Laurel Lance was dangled in front of fans for most of Season 1, but it\'s Olicity who received all (well, most of) the fandom love.
It\'s not hard to see why fans love Felicity. She busts out of conventional molds, giving fans a smart, sassy heroine who uses her skills with a computer instead of her sex appeal. (Though, — let\'s be clear — she does have that too.)
So okay, no, Oliver hasn\'t always been in Olicity mode. Largely because he thinks superheroes make awful boyfriends... Which is fair and usually correct. He hooked-up with Isabel in Season 2, but explained to a questioning (and hurt) Felicity that it didn\'t mean anything. Why? Because he thinks he shouldn\'t be with someone he really cares about. Felicity\'s response: "I think you deserve better than her."
These aren\'t the looks you share with a platonic pal or co-worker. (And if you\'re currently experiencing this level of intensity with your pal or co-worker, then FYI something\'s going on.)
Superhero, billionaire, nightclub owner... Oliver has a lot going on for him — even without that whole declared dead thing. Some women would be intimidated. Felicity knows how to bring him down a peg, throwing in digs about everything from his frat boy image to his island experience.
Ah, bullet-ridden laptops... So good at bringing two vigilante-inclined individuals together. If Oliver hadn\'t needed some extreme I.T. help, Olicity might\'ve never been.
It ain\'t easy holding back the floodgates of evil from Starling City. Somehow Oliver and Felicity manage — and the more they do it in each other\'s arms, the better.
While Oliver and Felicity don\'t seem so similar on the surface, they\'re both relentless in their search for the truth. As Felicity says, "I hate mysteries. They bug me. They need to be solved.”
So there\'s this guy, Barry Allen, and he seems nice and all. Felicity and Barry have hit it off — with the aforementioned couple name to prove it — but we know where the true sparks are. (Plus, Barry\'s in a coma. Sorry, Barry.)
Can you feel the Olicity love yet? The Twittersphere has. Not only does "Olicity Owns Our Hearts" succinctly summarize our feelings, but it was also trending worldwide on Twitter.
Patience is seriously the name of the game, folks. There\'s crime to solve and bad guys to catch — romance can\'t always be the top priority, and we think that suits Olicity just fine.
The Queen family\'s claim to fame and fortune hasn\'t always been on the up-and-up, but if Felicity hadn\'t been employed there, she and Oliver would have never met.
At the end of the day, Olicity\'s friendship is anchored by trust. These two know they can count on each other — which is awesome when bad guys are trying to kill you every week.
There is no Oliver/Green Arrow without Amell. The actor (who hails from the Great White North just like Rickards) brings a sense of gravity to the role — and we may or may not have noticed his
The best romances take time. We like a slow burn for our favorite angst-ridden tales of love, and that\'s why we think it\'s good Olicity is approaching endgame status at their own pace.
Oliver is usually the one getting his hands dirty, but Felicity is no stranger to danger. She gets out from behind her desk for shady undercover missions. With Oliver in her ear, obviously.
Couples have got to have hobbies. Theirs just happens to be putting evil dudes behind bars on an extremely regular basis.
Look, we\'re not sitting in the writers\' room of
, but we\'ve seen too much care, tension, respect, and passion between these two to result in nothing. Love is in the air. We just know it.
In between being a spoiled rich brat and pretending to be a spoiled rich brat, Oliver\'s stacked up his fair share of exes. Felicity\'s not really a fan of all them, especially the "psycho" ones.
Felicity to Oliver: "I was just used to being your girl. I mean not your girl, girl, your girl. I know it sounds like the same word, but it means something different in my head." Oliver\'s response: "You\'ll always be my girl, Felicity." Swoon.
If you don\'t have a quiver full of trick arrows, you\'re superhero-ing wrong. Oliver\'s constantly using them, even swinging himself and Felicity out of danger. High-flying romantics at its best.
Ultimately, Olicity shares an unparalleled passion for justice, life, and each other that makes our hearts — and more importantly, their hearts — happy. We love seeing them together, and we can\'t wait for more tension, more stolen touches, and one kick-ass happily ever after.
