I’m a bit iffy about Clary being related to Jem, because their personalities just don’t seem to be similar in any way. I’ve always thought that there might be some link between Jem and the Penhallow family. And I’m not sure if Tessa was looking at Clary because of Jace. I think there’s some special link between Clary and Tessa. I know that Will and Jace are related, but I don’t think that Jace is a DIRECT descendant of Will. It could be that Will is Jace’s great-uncle or something, I don’t know. My guess if that there could be some sort of link between Tessa and the Gray Book, since her last name is Gray and all. I think I read something in CoFA that made me think of Tessa, like something about a shape-shifter or something, I forgot. Maybe you could reread it and see?

KF1012 I found something that really makes me think that Tessa is still around. On page 259 of 'City of Fallen Angels', when Magnus is narrating, it says, "He saw a boy with black hair and blue eyes like Alec's. A girl with long brown curls and a serious face. In a world where everything went away from him eventually, she was one of the few remaining constants." REMAINING!!!!!! She has to be immortal, because who the hell else would Magnus be talking about?! And since she was spotted in City of Glass, too (good catch, btw!), I think that she's definitely going to be back soon. She must have some part in helping Clary fix what's going on with Jace and Sebastian.

11rob09a I did notice in City of Lost Souls that when Clary is talking to Jocelyn about whether she had that protection ceremony peformed on her when she was a kid. Jocelyn mentions that "a female warlock stood in the place of an iron sister" and clary asks "who was the female warlock?" but then Jocelyn is cut off and we never find out the answer. I think this is a very obvious sign that Tessa is involved with clary and Jocelyn, and also that she must be a warlock. Or at least immortal. I think we will find out for sure when city of heavenly fire comes out after clockwork princess. In which we will already know most of it

In CoLS, Brother Zachariah was described as having high cheekbones, dark hair, and young, slender hands; also, he was concerned about Jace, and more particularly, about calling him a Herondale, so there’s a strong chance he could be, in fact, Will. Also, in the epilogue, he indicated that he would have died for “two people” before becoming a Silent Brother: most likely Tessa and Jem. I don’t think Jace is a direct descendant of Will though; he could be a descendant of Cecily, or one of Will’s cousins. In the case of Cecily, maybe the dad ran off, so the child(/ren) had to take their mother’s last name. Also, not all that relevant, but I’m glad Alec and Izzy are descended from Gideon and not Gabriel! Maybe they got their dark hair from Sophie, since Gideon’s hair is a dirty blonde? To be honest, I didn’t enjoy CoLS as much as the others. It had too much making out and not enough action. And Jace was funny at the start, but now his jokes just seem supercilious and glib. I prefer TID to TMI; the only reason why I read CoFA and CoLS was because of the links between the two series. Does anyone else think Helen Blackthorn will be one of the main characters in the upcoming [i]Dark Artifices[/i]? Her family’s from LA, and Clare said that was the setting. Also, in both TMI and TID, there’s a main/secondary character for all Downworlders apart from faeries, and since Helen has faerie blood, that could indicate a shift of focus from other Downworlders to faeries in this series, or at least more involvement. Sorry for the rant :P

always_wishing @ms_brightside27 - I know I'm three months behind everyone else but I've only just finished all the available books in the mortal and infernal instruments series while I've been traveling. What you said about Will possibly being Brother Zachariah totally makes sense but came as such a shock! I was really hoping that Tessa and Will would end up being together. Some part of me is hoping that Brother Zachariah may in fact be Jem instead (if they found a cure he would also have black hair and he had slender hands), but I'm questioning a happy ending to this story - if Tessa is indeed immortal, then everyone she loves will eventually die anyway won't they? Thoughts? Don't think I can wait until March for the last book!

KillJose I think that Clary recognised her coz: Will and Jace are obviously in family since they both are Herondales. Jace is alot like Will. Rough and sarcastic on the outside but sweet and caring on the inside. I think that Tessa reminds Clary of herself! They where both destined to save the world AND they where both in love with either Jace or Will. And since Jace and Will are so alike it would almost be the same if they both had lived at the same time. They wouldve fell in love with the same person. But this person wouldve had another name. Other parents. And other stuff to worry about. So this is what i just wrote but shorter: Tessa and Clary is almost the same. You could take Jems idea about the Weel of Life. Clary is (im sorry for my bad english but i really suck at is..) Tessa. As if Tessa was put into this world again but in another body! Of coruse she still has her own! o.o Sorry for the bad english (i didnt listen in school...) and the long text...

euphrosyne18 Wow, I never made that connection to Brother Zachariah, but I kind of hope that's true! As for Tessa and Clary being the same person I think that's too metaphysical for Clare. I think it's more likely she's immortal which I'm slightly upset about, but I like the idea of her being related to the Gray Book that would make sense, especially since the Gray book has nephilim runes which could connect to Tessa being part Shadowhunter (if that turns out to be true!) I don't think that its possible that Clary is related to Jem because I thought it was pretty clear she was a descendant on Charlotte and Henry with the ginger hair and the name Fairchild.... Part of me really hopes that Tessa got together with Will and so Jace is like her great grandson, or whatever! I can't believe she's making us wait until 2014 for CoHF!!!!

amaris1995 Im reading Clockwork Princess and i agree i do believe that is Tess Gray. And the reason why she looked familiar to Clary, is because she is Jace's ancestor. He is a Herondale. She married and had kids with William Herondale. So Clary maybe reconized her through Jace.

vicellington !!!!!! Spoiler alert!!!!!!! Just finished clockwork princess and on the inside of the outside cover(hardback from target) there is a family tree. All of the light wood children are direct descendants of Cecily Herondale and Gabriel Lightwood. Jace is the great great great grandson of Tessa and Will. They had two kids, James and Lucie, James marries a Cordelia Carstairs( daughter of Elias Carstairs who is Jems uncle). Cordelia and James have Owen Herondale, who has Marcus Herondale who is married to Imogen who has Stephen who is Jaces father. There isn't a Fairchild excerpt to the family tree, but in CP we learn that Charlotte branwell has her child but let's him keep her maiden name Fairchild. We also learn that in Orderto save his life at the time Jem becomes a silent brother who name is then Brother Zachariah, but Jem turns mortal at the end of the book and goes off with Tessa so idk about that one?

I'm pretty sure Tessa will be in it and I think she'll help them by changing into Sebastian and seeing what his plans are and how to defeat him. The epilogue is in the year 2008. 2008 is the year after Max Lightwood was murdered. Tessa is meeting Jem on the bridge, and you learn that he is no longer a Silent Brother, and the cure has been found. Yes, that is Tessa. It is not recorded that Jem and Tessa had any kids at all. Also, when Jem became a Silent Brother, he was to be called Brother Zachariah, so yes that was him. At the time.

handstar8 vicellington is right I bought CP the day it came out and I finished it in a day Jace is a decendent of Will and Tessa. Alec, Izzy, and Max are decendents of Cecily and Gabriel. Clary is a decendent of Charlotte and Henry because she gives birth to a boy and gives him her maiden name, Fairchild. Tessa is also a Starkweather because her mom was a shadowhunter that was switched with a human baby for revenge. So she was never marked. When Mortmain heard of this he sent a demon in the place of her mother's husband. She gave birth to Tessa who was half shadowhunter half demon. The reason why she is a starkweather is because Allouis or whatever had a son who married and had Elizabeth, Tessa'a mother, it was the faeries that switched the babies and caused this tradegy.

tmitidfanatic Basically Jace is related to Will Herondale. Clary is related to Charlotte and Henry. Because Charlotte's kids took her last name and Jocelyn is a Fairchild. (which is why Clary has red hair like Henry.. Also in the family tree, it says Max died in 2007, which is in the book City of Glass. Jem and Tessa met in 2008 on the bridge where he was no longer a silent brother. So there is a massive chance of jem and Tessa appearing in City of Heavenly Fire. Brother Zachariah deeply cares for the Herondale family. He petitioned throughout the Clave meetings to continue the search for Jace Lightwood at the same intensity as it had been going. He repeatedly mentioned throughout City of Lost Souls that he wanted to save the Herondale bloodline.

Doxus At some point, Jace is **SPOILER*** revealed to have Herondale blood which, if true, makes Jace and Tessa related by marriage because sometime after Jem became a Silent Brother, Tessa and Will married one another; they also had two children.
