Now, when Arthur's grandfather was moved by the dancer's letter, he felt sorry for those who lived like this poor dancer , and when Arthur's father new Amy's uncle (one of the episodes Fredrick tells Arthur that he knew his father before Arthur was born), Arthur's grandfather changed his will to help the poor girl who was born in the Marshalsea. when Arthur's grandfather was dead , Mrs.Clennam was the first to know about the will, so she decided to hide it, because if she doesn't hide it, people will start wondering why did he change his will, and then she and her husband would live in disgrace for the rest of their lives... Arthur's father then took Arthur to China away from Mrs.Clennam but even in his dying hour he was so week towards his wife, he wanted to remind her of the poor child who deserved to be out of that prison so he put the words "DO NOT FORGET" in the watch to remind her, maybe she would make it up for Amy after all these years but Mrs.Clennam did nothing but making Amy her Seamstress. according to this Mrs.Clennam owes Amy a lot, because if Mrs.Clennam didn't hide the will, the legacy will go to Amy, her father would be out of jail, and would be extremely RICH. if there's something u didn't understand about what I have said please let me know.

MajorKelly Now that makes sense, but it could've been much more clearly explained in the show. The big reveal scene doesn't make clear at all that two different women were the mothers of Amy and Arthur. Except for the one time Frederick remarked off-handedly that he knew Clennam, there is no reason to believe Clennam would leave all this money to a Dorritt. Thanks for taking the time to explain.

hindaa Yes I totally agree, it took me a while to understand the ending, because Riguad's accent doesn't help at all, but then I watched it with subtitles in my language, and a lot of things was clearer to me. Glad I helped :)

MinervaMestiza "I thank you for explaining it so fully" Like Mr. Darcy said. In my case the subtitles in spanish didn't help, because when Rigaud said "child" it translate "girl". When in fact he is talking about Arthur. But now it's all clear, thanks again.

georgiacath It's been a year since you posted these answers, but here goes: All these things you've explained make sense, except for how Amy ends up living with Mr. Dorrit, Father of the Marshalsea. It's not like he wouldn't have known Amy wasn't his....

mollybruce I think your explaintion of the ending is great except that I don’t understand what Miss Wade had to do with it all. How did she get the ballet slippers. I understand that they belonged to Arthur’s mother. But Miss Wade is a mystery to me. Can you tell me how she fits?
