Part 3:
당신 found me
It had been 3 long months. Not one 일 had she spent without thinking about him. She thought she was crazy, after all it was just one night. But she hadn’t forgotten how different he made her feel. He wasn’t like the other guys. She couldn’t place her finger on exactly what it was about him that made him so different. But she wished she had stayed around long enough to find out. She wished she knew all about Lucas Scott and exactly who he was.
“Hey Brooke, I’m going to work so I’ll see 당신 later okay?” Peyton called from the bottom of the stairs.
“Okay Sawyer I’ll see 당신 in a little while.” came Brooke’s reply.
Peyton locked the front door behind her as she stepped into the warm summer air. Just a couple of months 이전 she had gotten a new job at a record store. 음악 had always made sense to Peyton ever since her Mom died. She remembered how her mother sang her to sleep when she was a little girl, and how her voice used to soothe her. And when she was gone Peyton used 음악 to fill the silence, to remember what it was like at the only period in her life when she was truly happy. She still wasn’t sure if she would ever get that back.
As she hurriedly walked through the busy city, she realised how none of the faces in the crowd was her Mom. None of the faces in the crowd cared. She didn’t know why but it made her ache. All of a sudden, all the bad memories drifted though her head and she felt her breath quicken. Her mind span with the 이미지 of Ian Banks, the man who had tried to kill her, she remembered the pain as she got struck to the ground 의해 a bullet, and she also remembered the grief she went through both times she 로스트 a mother. The strange thing was that she didn’t just remember these things, but she actually felt them. She couldn’t breathe. She put a hand to her chest as she tried to make the pain go away but she couldn’t. For four years, she had put these things to one side. She had told herself that she was strong enough to get through it all. Perhaps she wasn’t. The crowd rushed around her in a wild haze and she felt disorientated and scared. Peyton ran. She wasn’t sure where she was running, but she needed to get away as quickly as possible. Eventually she found an abandoned corner behind an old warehouse, so she sped over to it. She panted and tried to catch her breath. Breathing was still a struggle at this point. She realised how weak she felt as her legs gave way underneath her and she slumped to the ground. Peyton let out a strangled sob and the tears began to fall. As she cried, her body shook. She didn’t realise how cold she was until she saw the 거위, 거 위 bumps down her bare arms. She closed her eyes and rocked back and forth. She wanted to forget the pain. She prayed for it to go away.
Eventually she felt a warm piece of material cover her arms. Her eyes were still closed but as he held her in his arms she knew exactly who he was. Lucas.
“Why are 당신 here?” She spoke weakly.
“I’m not sure.” Lucas replied, truthfully.
Peyton tried to stand, but her legs were so weak. Realising this, Lucas wrapped his 재킷, 자 켓 around her whole body and lifted her to his car. She felt silly, like a child. But she was too tired to argue. Peyton simply fell asleep as he drove. She had never felt safer than in Lucas’s car.

Lucas didn’t dare to wake her up. She had had a panic attack and it had exhausted her. It was lucky that he had found her. His lieutenant had asked to meet with him in an old warehouse that hadn’t been used for some time, just in case someone heard their conversation. Ever since he had become an official member of the CIA a 년 ago, his life had become so dangerous that even an overheard conversation could be potentially life-threatening. Lucas was just leaving as he heard someone crying in the alleyway.
He heard Peyton stir. He watched her until she eventually opened her eyes.
“Lucas” she mumbled. “What am I doing here?”
“You don’t remember?” Lucas was concerned.
“Oh. I guess I panicked huh?”
“Yeah 당신 kind of did.” Luke chuckled. There was an awkward silence between them for a couple of minutes.
“Lucas?” Peyton said bleakly.
“Yeah?”
“I’m so sorry.”
“For what?”
“All sorts of things. For leaving your room like that. And for breaking down like that too. 당신 must think I’m so pathetic.” She felt ashamed.
Lucas shot her a quizzical and concerned look and said “Peyton, its okay. And you’re not pathetic. But what’s going on?”
She contemplated her answer before she spoke. “It just got too much Luke. My whole life I’ve put up this 벽 and left all my emotions on the other side of it. And three months 이전 I realised that it was starting to get to me. So I moved here. But now I realise that I wasn’t starting a new life. I was running away from my old one, and who I really am. I feel…broken. And I have no idea why but 당신 are the only person who makes me feel whole again.”
Lucas moved to sit near her on the bed. He looked into her eyes and felt a spark of something that he hadn’t felt…ever. And it was crazy, because apart from that one night three months 이전 they barely knew each other. He tipped Peyton’s chin so that she would look back at him. “Peyton”, he spoke, “You are not broken. You’re just lost.”
Tears began to fill in her eyes. “But I don’t know how I’m ever going to find my way again Luke.”
“You will.” He said softly “I promise.”

“Peyton Sawyer! Where the hell have 당신 been? I’ve been going out of my mind. I called your work but they said 당신 hadn’t shown up. So I started to worry that maybe you’d been attacked 또는 raped-"
“Brooke, slow down! I’m fine. I just decided to skip work today and see the city instead. But I 사랑 당신 for caring.”
Brooke didn’t buy Peyton’s excuse for a second. “Peyton are 당신 being serious?”
“Yeah. I am” She stated with a look of innocence.
“But 당신 would never skip work…that’s just not you.”
“Well, I haven’t really felt that much like me lately.”
Brooke’s brow furrowed as she tried to decipher exactly what that meant. But before she could say anything, Peyton changed the subject.
“So, how’s Bitchtoria’s evil plan coming along?” She asked, raising her eyebrow.
“Terribly. I must have inherited the evil gene as I’m screwing her over.”
Peyton laughed at this. The brunette didn’t have an evil bone in her body. Sure, she could be bitchy at times but who wasn’t?
“Brooke?” Peyton asked suddenly.
“Yeah?”
“You know you’re my best friend right?”
Brooke was puzzled but took the blonde’s 질문 lightly.
“Sure I do.”
“Thanks for being there for me when my Mom died. And through everything else. I don’t think I would’ve survived without you.”
Brooke pulled her friend into a tight embrace. “That’s okay honey.” She whispered. “I’m here for 당신 know matter what. 당신 know that right?”
Peyton nodded. She wanted to tell her about what had happened today but she couldn’t find the words. She realised that today was yet another secret she had to keep from the rest of the world, except from Lucas. She silently chuckled to herself. He knew so much about her already, but she didn’t even know what his job was. One thing was for sure, she would find out. Because this time she had the chance.
