Okay I ABSOLUTELY adore these things and no one can tell me otherwise, but I can understand why others may find them overrated. I’m picking things that a majority of the fandom/people tend to love. There’s other things I love which I can understand why people do not but they’re not really loved by the fandom anyways, so I didn’t include them.
Jess & Rory- I know he was a very bad communicator and did not treat Rory the best when it came to certain things, so I understand why some people may not like them.
Jess Mariano- Hurts to put my favorite here, but the above. I know Jess did some shitty stuff and was very disrespectful at times so I can understand why some people may not like him. I also know he wasn’t on the show that long compared to some other characters so I understand why a lot of people didn’t grow attached to him.
Lorelai Gilmore- Growing up and rewatching made me realize that Lorelai could be very immature and disrespectful in certain situations. I adore her to pieces and understand why she acted the way she did, but I don’t really see the fandom acknowledge it that much (probably because they’re so busy going crazy on Rory lol)
Killian Jones/Captain Hook-Once again, I know he did a lot of dumbass shit so I get it. Kind of the same explanation as Jess, except not being on the show long enough part.
Hook & Emma- I adore these two so much, but I agree that the show started to favor them and put other characters/couples down or give them less screen time to prop them up. So when people begin to get annoyed with these two, I didn’t agree, but I understood why.
Girl Meets World- I think BMW is definitely the better show, but I think GMW got a lot of hype because people became really into the ships and I can acknowledge that.
Game of Thrones- I mean, yeah lol. I don’t think I have to really go into why. Still adore it.
Mean Girls- I think this is a favorite if you grew up on it and grew up on the references. But I understand why people who didn’t grow up on the movie may dislike it.
Cristina Yang- Once again HURTS putting her here :( But I can understand why some of the things she does and says would get on people’s nerves.
Stranger Things- I really enjoy this show, but I know it jumps the sharks or does some eye roll things sometimes so I understand when people tell me they can’t get into it.
Barney Stinson- adore this man so much!! But once again he does a lot of out of pocket things and says a lot of disrespectful things (which, I know is exaggerated for a sitcom) but I can acknowledge some of the hate he gets.
Star Wars Sequels-The originals are a lot better and I can admit that they lowkey did some stuff for the money game. Still love the movies tho lol
Lion King- Idk I know some people find it boring. Personally don’t agree, but I guess I can see why

I agree with quite a few of these, but gotta go with GoT because of the way I've seen people respond when they hear someone hasn't watched it!

Also, definitely stealing this idea & maybe the other one.

I find other options more overrated (jess/rory, got, jess) but I wanted to pick an option that I adore while also finding it overrated. Outside of the fandom, I don’t think Barney is that overrated anymore. Inside the fandom though, it pains me to see comments like “Without him the show sucks” and all the other characters (esp. Lily & Ted) being forgotten or hated, bc I adore all of these characters so much <3333

I agree! Especially since the show suffered from bad writing as soon as they ran out of book material (around end of S4 imo). Still a revolutionary show in the TV landscape but I don't think it's a must see anymore.

I do agree with Rana about what she said about Lit/Jess and Hook/CS. I get that it annoyed some people especially for OUAT but for me it felt justified bc Emma has always been the central character whose journey we were on, so made sense to me that we saw her love story from beginning to end. (Also I do think Ginnifer and so Snowing was less present after Joshifer got kids and they were the other main ship so might be why too.)
For Jess/Rory, well I feel like every Rory ship has their supporters and haters so to me, it's just about preference. We just happen to ship Lit more in the LPF?

I strongly agree about SW sequels. Disney made everything much much worse, and it's so sad to see because SW is so dear to me. I still watched them, love some stuff from it obviously but like it's no secret that the OG trilogy is just plain better

jess/rory for sure!! they're a couple i thought i would love before watching the show & then ended up feeling nothing... and honestly they share some great scenes but i never got the hype over them.

hook/emma - basically what you said! from one point over the writers started giving them so much screen time and trying to prove us how perfect/ epic they were and it was getting super annoying (from s5 onwards). it's not like i was a fan before but i trully appreciated them in s4 & then i was like ENOUGH!!!!

also agree on stranger things, mean girls & lion king!!
i love/enjoy all of these but i think there are also way better and more iconic shows or movies!
for ex. stranger things is trully interesting but i don't get why it became so famous, many parts of the plot have left me like wtf dude, this is plain stupid!

(haven't watched got or star wars but i've tried both & never got into them.. so yeah, i don't get why they have to be considered THE BEST but i get/respect why people can love them so much!)

now for the characters:
I don't think Cristina is overrated, I think Barney is, but only when they diminish the rest of the characters to make him look the best (& i'm talking about the fans) and i totally get why Lorelai is the fan-favorite -as well as Barney-. They're both a little extra, they don't necessarily need to be relatable but they bring the fun and awesomeness.
Agree about Hook / Jess being overrated but I"m not surprised because they serve they bad guy part most people adore and they're both hot. BTW we see Jess grow etc but we never see it on screen so it's kinda weird.. because even if he annoys you in earlier seasons, then he turns out to be such a soft / caring soul, especially in the revival and you're like well when did this happen?! IDK if it makes sense :P
