in the movie 셔터 island what was the whole point of that movie,it was confusing

I found the 영화 셔터 island was amazing and a great mind teaser. Plus the actors and 여배우 in the movie were legendary. I think it was just an interesting movie to catch peoples attention

Leo's wife suffered from untreated bipolar disorder which caused her to drown her kids in the pond behind their house. When Leo's character found out what she had done, he shot and killed her. Because he had loved both her and his kids so much, he couldn't accept what had happened to them. So his mind made up an elaborate 판타지 world where he had never had kids, his wife had been murdered, and he was a hero both in the war and in his career. Basically the entire movie (except for the last 20 minutes), was an extremely detailed and in-depth therapy session that would allow him to play out his 판타지 life, realize the truth, and come to terms with reality. But at the very end of the movie he appears to have relapsed back into his 판타지 world, so the mental hospital was forced to perform a lobotomy on him so that he would no longer be violent to the other patients.
