Jack Shephard is a talented spinal surgeon who was born into the profession as his father was also a surgeon. All his life, Jack had to deal with certain issues with his father, until his father's death in Australia in late 2004. Jack had travelled to Australia to find his father, but had arrived to find out that his father had already passed away. Jack was taking his father's body back to America when his plane, Oceanic Flight 815, hit a bout of turbulence and crashed somewhere in the South pacific. Since arriving on the island, Jack has taken an unofficial role as leader to the remaining survivors of the crash, something he was reluctant to do but eventually fell into the rhythm of it. Jack has bonded with many of the survivors, notably Kate Austen, whom he has confessed to being in 사랑 with.
