So gathering other people’s letters or writing their names on a wall… It’s a reminder… That in the end we’re left infinitely and utterly alone.” —— I don’t believe that Klaus has ever had a moment respite for his loneliness; it is the one emotion along with pain and isolation that most have pervaded his life from day one. He does not know what love means or what it feels like in pure form, even from his siblings. With the unbreakable armor he built around himself, if not even the people who know him better can enter, it’s impossible for anyone else to do so, and he knows this, he doesn’t believe he can be loved or love in return, but he still tries: to understand, to feel, to reach out, even if in the most abominable ways. I love this quote because it’s the first time that he expresses in words what he is, as always been and will always be. And look at his face, the way Joseph played this is superb, his eyes are big and shiny, you can see the disappointment, betrayal, pain and rejection of a thousand years, how yet again he couldn’t make a connection, how the poison of his father’s words are still alive and present, as they will always be. Just as he will always be alone.
