On the occasion of the release of her last book in Italy we interviewed Kathy Reichs, whose life inspired the tv series Bones.
Q. What's been the best moment of your career as an author?
My first book, without a doubt. The starting point, creating the characters, the setting...That was my blossom time, the 심장 of everything. For the rest, I write a book per 년 so I have to be creative. What's important to me is to carve out my spaces so that I can be creative though my professional commitments that absorb me and for which I travel a lot.
Q. Exactly, why did 당신 decide to become a writer?
It was when I became a professor. I wanted to try something new, something different from academic papers.
Q. What has been the best gift you've ever received from a fan?
Something I got recently: a student slip a cd with 사진 and a video in one of her academic projects. In every picture she posed pretending to be me at work. I found it very original and funny.
Q. This 년 본즈 hit it big, confirming viewer's passion for crime series. In your opinion what's the recipe for the perfect detective story?
I think that what detective stories' readers look for are an interesting character, a good contextualization of the story and a well-oiled plot that allows them to follow every case and weigh up each and every clue. Further 더 많이 what it needs to be done is to conclude the story without rely on accidental coincidences, but 의해 converging each clue disseminated during the story. In other words a conclusion needs to be satisfying for the reader and, what's 더 많이 important, to make sense.
Q. 본즈 has reached his sixth season. 당신 are a producer and a consultant of the series. How long do 당신 think it could go on?
Generally speaking a series lasts to its seventh season. In our case rumors say it could go on and on, like till the ninth 또는 tenth season. And I think so because of different clues like the selling of our rights to cable. But with Hollywood nothing is for sure so we'll see what will happen 년 after year.
Q. One could say that Bones, and the chemistry between the two main characters, inspired another series, Castle, broadcasted 의해 ABC. Have 당신 ever seen this show? Do 당신 see any similitude with Bones?
I'm not an expert but I think you're right. We were the first to create a crimedy series. Viewers like this formula and 성 is a perfect example of a series which took us as a reference.
Q. 당신 have already written the script for an episode. Do 당신 think you'll do it again? Can 당신 tell us something about the sixth season?
Yeah, I wrote an episode and it's very likely that I'll write another one for 다음 season. Spoilers about what will happen? I really don't think so.
Q. David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel are perfect for their characters, Booth and Brennan. If they hadn't accepted their roles who would 당신 have like to see in theirs shoes?
They've been Booth and Brennan for so long and they're so good in their roles that I can't really imagine someone else playing their parts.
Q. Do 당신 follow other TV series? Which ones?
To tell the truth I'm a huge 팬 of CNN's news, but I really like dear old Boston Legal, Mad men and Grey's Anatomy.
Q. Did 당신 happen to watch 로스트 finale? As an author and a producer what do 당신 think of the disputed final episode?
I haven't watched it so far. 당신 say it's a disputed finale but my friends, who have seen it, told me it was an amazing episode!
Q. In my opinion the main difference between 본즈 and other series it's that it gets better and better: the further 당신 go ahead and the better are the cases and what lies behind them. Do 당신 think that the 팬 are riper to understand technical and scientific details that they wouldn't have understand before?
I totally agree with you. Bones' crew has improved: plots are and hold up better. And now the 팬 are 더 많이 at ease with the terminology and the characters and how they're involved in the story.
Q. Bones' success is also based on the UST between Booth and Brennan. I read that 당신 want to keep them as colleagues, even though bond 의해 a strong friendship: is that true?
If I knew the answer to that...I wouldn't tell you! It's true there's chemistry between them as there was between X-Files' main characters. But I don't think it's a good idea to let this chemistry develop into a deeper relationship. Usually when that happens it means that the story between the two is going to an end.
Q. At the end of season three, Zach Addy, Gormogon's apprentice, left the series. Last 년 we found out that he didn't kill anyone. Does that mean that he'll ever come back for real?
Zach reappeared in the hundredth episode, but I don't think he'll return.
Q. Soon it'll begin a series inspired 의해 Terry Gerritsen's novel “Rizzoli&Isles”. What do 당신 think about this new TV show? Do 당신 think it will be a serious competitor to Bones?
Unluckily I don't know these novels so I don't know how to answer this question.
