The story is about a 19th century bachelor who arrives in NY after he followed Stuart(Liv Schriber) who is a scientist through the portal that is connected to Brooklyn Bridge. As Leopold(Hugh Jackman) is in NY he meets and later falls for Kate(Meg Ryan) a executive who isn't too keen in romance after she and Stuart broke up. So as Leopold and Kate fall for each other Leopold has to wonder would he find 사랑 in NY 또는 his old world?.
