This degeneration causes uncontrolled movements, loss of intellectual faculties, and emotional disturbance. HD is a familial disease, passed from parent to child through a mutation in the normal gene. Each child of an HD parent has a 50-50 chance of inheriting the HD gene. If a child does not inherit the HD gene, he 또는 she will not develop the disease and cannot pass it to subsequent generations.

A pre-symptomatic positive blood test is not considered a diagnosis, because it may be decades before onset.
Is there any treatment?
There is no treatment to fully arrest the progression of the disease, but symptoms can be reduced 또는 alleviated through the use of medication and care methods. Huntington mice 모델 exposed to better husbandry techniques, especially better access to 음식 and water, lived much longer than mice that were not well cared for.
Other standard treatments to alleviate emotional symptoms include the use of antidepressants and sedatives, with antipsychotics (in low doses) for psychotic symptoms.
