BYE" it's random and unpredictable, that's the point! You don't always get revenge on your enemies, it's life -- it would make the battle very boring to read if everyone got to kill who they 'deserved' to. Sure, it would've been nice for Neville to kill her (much more satisfying than Molly) but that's not how a war works. And who's to say that Neville would've killed her anyway? Neville is brave, yeah, and definitely under-estimated, but he still lacks the actual skills* that you need to fight. He wouldn't have stood a chance. Besides, Molly was defending her daughter. But if I had to pick between these two, I pick Molly because of two reasons. 1. Neville already killed the snake which played a very important part and I don't think there should be more than one parts like that for secondary characters. 2. "Not my daughter you bitch!" Since then, I've read an article where JKR explains the decision (she was comparing Molly's maternal love to Bellatrix's obsessive love and loyalty towards Voldemort), but I still think Neville could have been a better choice. posted over a year ago.
