Do 당신 think the Percy Jackson series is another Harry Potter knockoff?

I'm a little tired of accusations of plagiarism flying around like frisbes. When 책 share a genre (fantasy, romance, magic, vampires, whatever), then they are bound to have similarities in everything from structure to their lore. Supernatural, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and 참드 are all about good people killing demons, but they didn't "rip [each other] off". Harry Potter and the Legend of King Arthur both involve good wizards, an orphaned boy, and a quest to overthrow an evil magical being, but Harry Potter didn't "rip off" Arthurian legends. Even structure will be the same. 별, 스타 Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter are all examples of the classic "Hero's Journey" story structure, but that structure goes back ages.

As T.S. Eliot said, "Mediocre writers borrow. Great writers steal." Good storytelling is an art, and there are techniques that come with it, just like there are techniques in painting, acting, singing, and any other art form. Perfecting those techniques is what makes 당신 a good writer.

Leave the plagiarism accusations up to the writers. Sheesh.

No I dont, Harry Potter and Percy Jackson are completly different. The only thing they have in common are that theyre both incredibly good stories!

Okay, sure, they are kind of similar but does it really matter! I mean all over the world people accuse others of ripping off 책 and movies. The thing is, that there are not that many 더 많이 genres and general themes that can be created. So of course when someone has a new idea it's not going to be completely unique. Every book to this 날짜 is sort of like another book and that's not going to change. If anything, it's going to get worse as the years go 의해 since 더 많이 creative and totally out there ideas will have to be created to 상단, 맨 위로 what's already out there and not be compared to classics 또는 just plain old good books!

In the sense of Percy Jackson and Harry Potter. Well, i completely 사랑 them both. Sure they are both heros who go someplace special with their 프렌즈 to save the world. As well as being 판타지 and involving myths. But the two series are of their own, since the topics are pretty different. A half-blood saving the world from monsters and the Titans---and a good wizard trying to destroy an evil wizard!

Overall, they are both great and i'm just sort of tired of having 책 compared as if under microscopic inspection. No one can change what was writtin and who cares if they are sort of similar!

I haven't seen the movie yet, let alone read the whole series. I think i'm gonna check it out. True about being tired of twihards. :D

I agree with you! Arguing with twilight 팬 gets tiring! And yeah, it seems that the author of the Percy Jackson series copied some of the things from Harry Potter(What I've seen in the commercials). I'll see when I watch the movie!

Harry and Percy both got:

-a prophecy to fill
-black hairs
-green eyes
-normal human moms 또는 at least comes from a normal human family
-long unrealized love;Harry>Ginny,Percy>Annnabeth
-half-something
-sort of hero
-main trademark is brave
-famous 'flaw' is will do anything to save someone

Well, I think that it does follow a very similar path. It does strike me as very similar to Harry Potter. It has it's own unique twist to it, but there are similarities.

-The trio. Harry Potter's trio is Harry, Ron and Hermione, and everyone in this spot knows about them (hopefully). Percy Jackson's trio is Percy, Grover and Annabeth. Percy is very similar to Harry in that there is a prophecy about him, he has to be the one to defeat the evil Titan lord (I'll get to that later), and he's the really 메리다와 마법의 숲 one. Grover is the sidekick, like Ron, and I think that Ron is 냉각기 than Grover, but there are some similarities between them as well. Annabeth is the intelligent, smart one, like Hermione.

-Harry Potter's antagonist is Voldemort, who has to piece himself back together to take over the world. Percy Jackson's antagonist is Kronos, who also has to piece himself back together to take over the world.

-Camp Half-Blood is the 안전한, 안전 haven for Half-Bloods. Hogwarts is the 안전한, 안전 haven for wizards. Both are places of training/learning. At Camp Half-Blood, there are different groupings (House of Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Athena, Hermes, Aphrodite, Dionysus, etc.) just like at Hogwarts (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin).

But then there are differences:
-Greek Gods' Children vs. Witches and Wizards
-America vs. United Kingdom
-Camp vs. School

I hope it will sooner knock off Twilight...

Being completely different has never stopped things from koncking each others off. Even such utter crap difference as Twilight, did it once, so something well written and good stuff, like the Percy Jackson serie, stands all the chances in the world.

But let's not forget that a few of the last HP 책 are the fastest selling 책 in history. And I think the world knew what Harry Potter was 또는 at least had heard of it long before it's films came out. Whereas some others only came to wider knowledge 의해 their films. Nothing can really knock HP off when it comes to the genre, in the end. Probably one essential reason is that Jo is not only a terrific writer, but the HP serie is easily enjoyable to all age groups. Very few series that I know of, seem to be the last mentioned.

So I don't really think of these will-this-be-a-kock-off boom 또는 not.

I really like Percy,but I still think that no one will ever beat Harry!They say HP and PJ are very different,but I disagree.I mean,just look at the trio : Harry-leader,Ron-funny and Hermione-smart one!Percy-leader,Grover-funny and Annabeth-smart one.I just hope that Percy will beat that shit that 당신 like to call "Twilight"!

I would rather have people compare HP to Percy Jackson than Twicrap. Percy Jackson is actually a good series of books. Yes There are similarities but I see similarities between Percy Jackson, Harry Potter AND Luke Skywalker.

7. Well in Harry Potter and Luke Skywalkers case their best 프렌즈 fall for eachother. Ron and Hermione and Han and Leia.
8. All have Wise old teachers, Dumbledore, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Im drawing a blank, I can see him forgot his name. Half-man half horse played 의해 Peirce Brosnan.

My friend ripped my other 프렌즈 Harry Potter book (The fith one) out of her hand, held it above her head, and ran into Chorus because she wants us to read Percy Jackson. (She likes Harry Potter too)

Look don't get me wrong, Percy Jackson and Harry Potter are both VERY good series. But, they have their seperate simularities and their differences. I have read both series and they are equally as good, but they should't be compared. They are good in their own way. Some people are getting in fights over a book series. I guess everyone likes their adventure but I can't decide which one I 사랑 more!

No not at all. They both include magical things, but Harry Potter is about Wizards and actual magic,whereas Percy Jackson is 더 많이 about Ancient Greek mythology. I 사랑 both of the series, 당신 can't really compare them against each other.

Nearly ever book in the fiction genre is similar to one another. It's just how writers work. Authors borrow small ideas from each other. Don't act like nobody takes ideas, 당신 think J.K. Rowling wasn't influenced 의해 the Lord of The Rings 또는 the Chronicles of Narnia, to name a few books?

Let's face it, every 판타지 book has similarities and ties to another. For one thing, 용 appear in nearly every 판타지 book out there. Suggesting that one book is a complete knockoff of another one is just stupid.
