The mark of a brilliant fantasy series is whether it has spawned any fan theories about the show\'s world - and
has so many that they could form the basis of a dozen spinoffs.
We\'ve plunged deep into the fansites for the very best examples (you\'re welcome) counting down from the genuinely possible to the completely out there. Be warned that the following might contain spoilers. But then again it might not. They\'re theories.
theories, also known as "R+L=J". It posits that
Jon wasn\'t born to Ned Stark and an unknown woman, but rather to Ned\'s sister Lyanna and Prince Rhaegar Targaryen. This would make him Daenerys\'s nephew.
This theory has gained credence following the Ned Stark flashback witnessed by Bran in \'Oathbreaker\'. Ned is seen fighting his way into the Tower of Joy to find Lyanna. But why were Arthur Dayne and co protecting her? Maybe because she had a baby, who was Rhaegar\'s son, heir to the Iron Throne and therefore threat to Robert Baratheon\'s reign.
Fans predict that Ned didn\'t want to murder his nephew, despite the Targaryen link (Sean Bean would never do that), and so told everyone that the baby was
son. And that son grew up to be Jon Snow. If true, his Targaryen blood could lead him to become one with dragons and perhaps even sit on the Iron Throne, and SAVE THE WORLD.
, this theory states that Tyrion and Daenerys are actually brother and sister. This would be thanks to a union between Tyrion\'s mother Joanna Lannister and the Mad King Aerys Targaryen.
The two were together around nine months before Tyrion was born, after she visited King\'s Landing to celebrate Aerys\'s tenth year on the Iron Throne. And let\'s not forget Tywin\'s final words to Tyrion: "You\'re no son of mine."
Now that we\'ve witnessed Tyrion having an easy-going bond with the dragons, could this mean that he has some Targaryen blood inside him? And could he, Dany and Jon be the three Dragon Riders required to claim the throne?
It\'s easy to assume that Jon\'s resurrection in \'Home\' was due to the magical powers of Melisandre (that\'s certainly what she and Davos and everyone else believe). But fans have speculated that this might not be the case.
Maybe Jon \'did a Bran\' and warged into the body of his direwolf Ghost just as he was being stabbed? This would certainly explain why Ghost suddenly woke up seconds before Jon came back to life. It looked somewhat similar to when Hodor came back to his senses after Bran took over his body.
So far, Jon says he has no memory of what happened after he was stabbed. But he\'s always had that whole brooding thing going on, so maybe he\'s not being totally honest.
Maybe it\'s just wishful thinking? But if we don\'t see a character get killed on screen, there\'s always a chance they\'ll suddenly reappear. (See also: Stannis).
Let\'s be honest, The Hound was great. It seemed just wrong for him to have a slow and painful death off screen. In the books, his conqueror Brienne saw a large, hooded man with injuries similar to the Hound digging graves after his alleged death. Also, actor Rory McCann has been spotted close to where the series is shot. Surely we deserve to see him face off against his abusive brother, The Mountain? Especially if they\'re both zombies now?
What the hell happened to Wylis? Bran was just as confused as us after he witnessed a flashback in which he saw Hodor as a stableboy for the Starks who could seemingly speak freely.
Reddit user TozoGreenTea first brought up an idea that Wylis had the Warg power like Bran. The Three-Eyed Raven has said previously that he\'s been following Bran, Meera and Hodor all their lives, which perhaps suggests Wylis also had similar visions to Bran.
"I\'m thinking that Wylis went far beyond the limits of warging, which may have mentally damaged him and turned him into Hodor," the theory states. "Hodor warged and identified more as a horse, since he was a stable boy. He\'s also afraid of thunder like horses, and has carried Bran on his back using a saddle." Ridiculous? Anything\'s possible now.
7. BRAN CAN TIME TRAVEL... AND IS THE THREE-EYED RAVEN FROM THE FUTURE
Perhaps Bran isn\'t merely seeing visions, maybe he\'s actually travelling back in time? The young Ned Stark certainly looked as if he heard Bran\'s screams for him.
Some fans have wondered whether this scene foreshadows Bran\'s overall presence in the series. Reddit user NegativeKarmaSnilfer theorised that Bran\'s abilities will be the main cause for Robert\'s Rebellion.
"From [season 6 episode 3], Bran realizes that others can hear him during the visions from the past, but doesn\'t understand that they cannot fully understand him," the Redditor wrote.
"He attempts to reason with King Aerys when shown a vision of him. The King only hears whispers, and is driven mad by it. Bran tries to fix this, however makes it worse. Mad King Aerys burns Bran\'s grandfather alive while Bran frantically tries to stop him. All he hears is whispers. Bran sets the events of the show in motion."
the Three-Eyed Raven from the future? Reddit user Atomo500 said: "The Three-Eyed Raven can\'t move for whatever reason. He seems to be guiding Bran for whatever reason. He says he has been waiting for Bran for whatever reason. He can somehow guide Bran through time, and it has been hinted that Bran is even capable of changing the past.
"The Three-Eyed Raven somehow knew that Bran would come; possibly because he is Bran. I\'m sure there\'s plenty of limitations to this, but just a fun little idea I thought about."
This theory would explain what the Raven meant by getting "stuck" if you dwell too long in visions from the past. Maybe he wants Bran to fix his own errors so he doesn\'t have to stay up a ruddy tree?

Melisandre keeps baning on about the Lord of Light, R\'hllor. She believes R\'hllor has reincarnated Azor Ahai, at first in the form of Stannis, and now potentially Jon Snow. But maybe she\'s got the wrong Snow.
The Red Woman has said she has had visions of "snow" - but perhaps all along the sadistic and downright evil Ramsay will end up being the reborn Azor? Considering the mean-spirited nature of the series, we wouldn\'t be surprised.
Yeah, this one is a bit of a stretch. This theory states that Jon Snow is secretly the brother of Meera Reed. Purely because... they have similar hair.
Yet another Reddit thread pondered whether Lyanna Stark actually had twins, and that the babies grew up to be Jon and Meera, Ned taking Jon to Winterfell and Howlen Reed, the only other survivor of the Tower Of Joy fight, taking Meera. However, the only real evidence that points to this is that they are about the same age and both have dark and curly hair. Seems legit.
We\'re all assuming that Jon is the secret Targaryen, but what if it was his bezzer mate Samwell Tarly? Fans have assumed that Daenerys\'s vision of "a blue flower growing from a chink in a wall of ice, filling the air with sweetness" refers to Jon, but maybe it was his brother in the Night\'s Watch?
references how Sam\'s dad hates him and his non-butch love of books (a hobby similar to Rhaegar), but perhaps it was mainly due to the fact he wasn\'t a Tarly? And old man Aemon Targaryen took a big shine to him.
Or maybe it was just due to George RR Martin making Sam the unlikely hero of the whole story? He does look like a younger version of him, after all. Stretch?
Game of Thrones: How Tyrion, Sansa and more have changed their look, from season 1 to season 6
This is the problem with warging. Now that we know it can happen, any character who has died in the past could potentially still be around somehow. Or we\'re just having lots of stupid false hope.
A passionate Reddit user delightfully named c**tfungus_inc has given their theory that just before Ned lost his head, he quickly and involuntarily warged into the person closest to him at the time. That person was Ilyn Payne, the Lannister-sympathiser with no tongue, who chopped off Sean Bean\'s bonce.
While this would confuse the f**k out of Ned if this happened (presumably he wouldn\'t have known he had such powers), once he realised what he had done, he could walk around King\'s Landing unnoticed. It could be the ultimate undercover mission. But let\'s be honest, this definitely won\'t happen. Right?
We\'re all assuming the Zombie Mountain is the undead Ser Gregor Clegane - and even Grand Maester Pycelle confirmed what everyone believes to the case in \'Oathbreaker\'. But we haven\'t seen under the helmet, have we? Eh?
In the books, the being is known as Ser Robert Strong - a \'monster\' created by Qyburn to be Cersei\'s champion. And while it is assumed to be Gregor, it\'s never actually officially stated as so.
A fan on Reddit has come up with a \'highly original\' theory, noting that Zombie Mountain\'s eyes are the wrong colour for Gregor (forgetting the whole zombie nature of his existence now), but rather that they look similar to the piercing blue of Cersei\'s dead son Joffrey. Also, the new Ser Gregor has a distinctive scarf round his neck.
So, the theory goes that Qyburn decided to sew Joffrey\'s head on to the body of The Mountain. This would at least explain why it\'s believed that the head of The Mountain was sent to Dorne in the books. We just can\'t quite imagine Joffers\' little head on that humungous body, somehow.
Game of Thrones death quiz: Can you put these grisly demises in the right order?
(*cough* dragons *cough*). But that doesn\'t mean you think they\'re connected in any way. Well, one Reddit user reckons that Westeros is actually JRR Tolkien\'s Middle-earth thousands of years after the
If you look at the maps, they are somewhat similar. According to Tolkien\'s
, the Misty Mountains were subsiding steadily, so could have ended up underwater to form the Narrow Sea. Plus, there was the supreme being Iluvatar, who created whole continents and seas just a century before the trilogy, so maybe he went a bit bonkers later down the line and saw it morph into Westeros?
If you delve further, The Shire is in the North, the \'men of the west\' stay in Westeros, Gondor became Dorne, and Mordor was situated where Valyria was before \'The Doom\', a volcanic explosion (maybe Mount Doom erupting again?).
And is that Gandalf\'s sword forged inside the Iron Throne? Actually, it may be: no-one on the GoT production has spoken on the matter yet, but it\'s highly likely that the props department sourced as many varied swords to cast from as they could find, and Glamdring could easily have been one of them.
