According to the Doctor Who Encyclopedia, the Doctor can only regenerate thirteen times, but there is a scientific and technological way of making new regenerations that the Gallifreyans came up with.

I read somewhere that a timelord incarnates thirteen times, and somewhere else that Matt Smith would be the last. Personally i believe as long as the ratings stay up and the merchandise keeps selling there will be a Doctor.

I'm quite a 팬 of classic who ^^ It's mentioned all the way through the Classic series and is mentioned in some of the newer books.
A Time Lord can only regenerate 12 times and has 13 incarnations. I heard that the Doctors daughter is meant to replace him once he dies. Although a time lord can acquire new regenerations as the time lords and the doctor both said that the Master has already finished his set of original regenerations in Classic who before he was brought back to fight in the time war and I would guess he was given 더 많이 regenerations then too, so the Doctor could always make 더 많이 regenerations for himself after all he is a genius.

In Mawdryn Undead (1983), it is first referenced that a Time Lord could transfer his regenerative life essence to another being. In that story, the Fifth Doctor is coerced 의해 Mawdryn to give up his future regenerations in order to cure Nyssa and Tegan Jovanka from Mawdryn's disease. Although the transfer did not occur (due to the timely interference of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart), the Doctor stated that the consequence of the transference would be that he would sacrifice his eight remaining lives and cease to be a Time Lord. A major plot point of the 1996 TV movie involves the Master scheming to steal the Doctor's remaining regenerations for himself. It is not until "Let's Kill Hitler" (2011) that a similar transference is shown. In that instance, River sacrifices her own regenerative power in order to revive the dead Eleventh Doctor. The favour is returned in "The 천사 Take Manhattan" where River Song's wrist is repaired 의해 the Doctor, who subsequently gives up a portion of his regenerative energy.

I herd twelve times, but also that The seventh Doctor was trying to Train Ace to be his Successor. He could do that again with another companion.

It is not really known. Although 13 times has been incinuated, i wouldn't bet on it. Doctor Who will go on well past that. Why would there have to be only 13 possible regenerations- what is the point? He is the Last of the Timelords anyway, so this regeneration supposedly put in place 의해 the Timelords will no longer be relevant to the Doctor. They wouldn't finish the programme just because it was mentioned subtly years 이전 that there was a limit; the writers will find someway to avoid this. And don't forget: The Doctor Lies, so he could quite easily have lied about that too.
