Aladdin: So here we were, early 1990's, and the 디즈니 Renaissance was at its peek. The studios had produced two of the highest grossing animated films of all time and still were pushing on. However the team suffered a tragic loss with the death of lyricist Howard Ashman who surprisingly had had a large amount of creative input on the 이전 two films. (He named Ariel) It was even his idea to make the 다음 디즈니 animated feature, Aladdin released on November 25, 1992. However, much to the disappointment of many, this would be the last picture to showcase a royal fairytale princess for the 다음 impending 17 years, Princess Jasmine.

재스민 속, 재 스민 is unique for a plethora of reasons. One being the fact that she is the only princess of the 디즈니 Lineup whom the story does NOT revolve around. Not surprisingly, this lends to the fact that researching her is slightly 더 많이 difficult without deviating into the 디자인 of the other characters.

재스민 속, 재 스민 is also the first princess of any ethnicity. Keeping in mind that this film was released pre-September 11th, (not to say 9-11 affected the way we view these characters today) but unlike the upcoming princess Tiana in The Princess and the Frog, racial sensitivity and political correctness was surprisingly not as touchy an issue in the creation of a Muslim princess.

In fact, in the book 1001 Arabian Nights the story of 알라딘 (and subsequently the princess) was Asian. However 알라딘 was most likely not originally apart of the stories dating back to about 1000 A.D., but was added to the compilation 의해 Antoine Galland, a French author/translator, who published the 책 in 12 volumes between 1704 and 1717.

While the 디즈니 version underwent many contemporary changes, the princess’s predicament of being pressured to find a suitor remained relatively the same. However, originally the princess's name was Badroulbadour and was very vain and spoiled.

 재스민 속, 재 스민 Guy
Jasmine Guy

Obviously, 디즈니 writers decided to change this personality flaw along with her name to something 더 많이 'relatable'. It turns out 재스민 속, 재 스민 was their first choice as it was among the most 인기 girl names in the early 90's largely due to actress Jasmine Guy. Although some early sketches were based from some of her features, her look came off as too severe.

 Beth Allen

Yet another unique detail about 재스민 속, 재 스민 is the fact that her final look was not based after any particular celebrity. Mark Henn who has been partially responsible for the 디자인 of every 디즈니 princess since Ariel, turned to a number of exotic 모델 to base 재스민 속, 재 스민 off of but ultimately was dissatisfied. He describes having seen a guest at 디즈니 World with long black hair and knew he wanted that feature but was having difficulty finding a face for the princess. Eventually Henn looked in his wallet to find a high school graduation 사진 of his younger sister Beth Allen. He did a concept sketch based off of her which the directors liked and ended up approving.

재스민 속, 재 스민 vs Taj Mahal and Arabian text
Jasmine vs Taj Mahal and Arabian text

In a similar spirit that incorporated the angular look of medieval tapestries into Sleeping Beauty, Art Director, Bill Perkins wanted to incorporate the look of Arabian text and architecture into Aladdin. Once such place to compare with 재스민 속, 재 스민 is the Taj Mahal. Although, NOT Arabian but Indian, the Taj Mahal is located in the city of Agra which is arguably the inspiration for the fictional city Agrabah. At closer inspection of 재스민 속, 재 스민 당신 may notice similar arches and curves in her clothes, jewelry, hair and features.

early sketches of 재스민 속, 재 스민 vs 알라딘

With the finalized look of princess 재스민 속, 재 스민 being whole-heartedly approved, the directors faced a problem. 알라딘 had been developed to be a young, scrawny underdog of a character. However Jeffrey Katzenberg, Disney's then Chairman, believed the romantic chemistry between the two characters would be 'unconvincing' (that the princess would never find him attractive). So, at the last minute, animators were told to make 알라딘 older and resemble Tom Cruise. Therefor in this case, Jasmine’s 디자인 influenced that look of the hero.

Many people are unaware of the two major themes representing the Princess which are presented in her first scene. The first is the water fountain. 재스민 속, 재 스민 was chosen to be dressed in a light blue specifically to represent water, the most precious substance one can find in a desert. The princess's first scene was situated 다음 to a 분수 to emphasize this connection.

The 초 theme is a caged bird. Also, in the first scene we see 재스민 속, 재 스민 release birds from their cage. This was meant as a metaphor for her plight; While she is “taken care of [and] provided for” she is caged from a world she has never seen and yearns to be released. We see this theme again in Jasmine's birdcage-shaped boudoir.

The whole concept of 재스민 속, 재 스민 escaping the palace in the dead of night to experience the 'real' world is directly inspired from the 1953 classic Audrey Hepburn film Roman Holiday. Hepburn plays a Princess Ann from a nondescript country visiting Rome. After a slight emotional breakdown, the princess sneaks out of the royal embassy and enjoys living as a regular person for a 일 going 의해 the name Anya. (which would later be the name used for Don Bluth’s misplaced princess Anastasia) She meets a guy, they fall for each other, her bodyguards come after her...all of which is in Jasmine's story~Great movie. Watch it!

As I've mentioned before, this movie has directly inspired pretty much every 디즈니 Princess since Sleeping Beauty.

In conclusion, 재스민 속, 재 스민 is an asset to the 디즈니 Princess lineup. She is a pioneer so to speak, being the first heroine of color 디즈니 had ever produced. Notably so, every following addition to the Princess lineup has been ethnic with Pocahontas, 뮬란 and now Tiana. 더 많이 than that, 재스민 속, 재 스민 represents a fight for civil rights, to fight against laws that stifle life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. For this, she continues to represent one of the most important messages to our society today. Whether it be racial tolerance, social hierarchy, civil rights 또는 something more, each person can take a lesson from her and her story. She broke a long-held exclusive bearier for girls (and boys) paving the way in letting children believe that anyone of any race can be a princess and 더 많이 importantly, to fight for what 당신 believe in.

Since it isn't so much left until 크리스마스 I decided to write a few 기사 here on that theme, not sure how many I'll do, but here's the first one. 당신 may not remember this song, but link in case 당신 haven't heard the song. Anyway originally the song had the 6 first 디즈니 Princesses 노래 the song, but I decided to redo the song a bit 의해 adding 6 new princesses and their parts has new lyrics. I decided to exclude Merida, so the new parts will be dedicated to Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Anna and Elsa. I'll write on each part which princess that has that part, anyway hope you'll...

What I will write will be similar to what I wrote on the last article. Most of my opinions are the same except for Aladdin. I wanted to write an updated 기사 because I finally rewatched Aladdin. Please no rude comments. Enjoy!

12. Brave- I despise this movie I really don't like Merida. While she may be a strong I think she is just rude and annoying. The film is so forgettable. I haven't seen the film in about 4 years and I don't plan on seeing it again.

12. Frozen- As many of 당신 know, like 메리다와 마법의 숲 I detest this movie. The characters are very irritating & the movie was trying way too hard...

Charm-the Real Feminine Mystique:
"A girl need not have perfect features nor an outstanding figure to be popular. But she should have charm. As Sir James Barrie had Maggie say in his play, What Every Woman Knows, 'If 당신 have it, 당신 don't need to have anything else; and if 당신 don't have it, it doesn't much matter what else 당신 have.'

Once 당신 have acquired charm, you'll probably never lose it. Especially after 당신 have discovered how much happier your life is because 당신 are considered to be that charming girl down the street.

To be charming 당신 need not to be any particular age, weight 또는 height...

Inspired 의해 link, who did an amazing job(! <3), I really wanted to do my own version with 가장 좋아하는 Openings. I actually really 사랑 the original fairy tale concept of the 디즈니 Princesses and I 사랑 the openings that give a 더 많이 magical and fairy tale kind of feel. (By the way, I am primarily trying to stick to the first 2-4 minutes.) So here is my ranking of the DP film openings, I hope 당신 guys enjoy this light read! :D

12. Frozen: 겨울왕국 Heart/Ice Opening
I personally found this to be uninteresting and irrelevant to the film's magic, fairy tale and princesses (mostly) in the film. No explanation...

Here's my quick top10 favorites of 디즈니 Princess movie songs. I get stuck to a new tune 또는 lyrics far easily, if its hummable and peppy especially. I like listening to songs and don't have particular fixed tastes in genres. Though i find, i tend to gravitate towards pop, rock and Indian music. Very rarely I enjoy classical music, although some that I 사랑 become my all time favorites and they don't die-out. I guess that's how classic 음악 is. Anyways, this is my current list of 상단, 맨 위로 10 favrorites songs from DP movies, it keeps changing for sure as I 옮기기 onto newer songs.

.... 또는 Are They? I keep hearing this massive distortion that Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora and sometimes others are "unrealistically perfect". Well first of all, they're not actually "perfect" but yes they strive for it and come pretty close. The number one reason? The earlier DPs were made in a time where families were still valued as well as good morals and they were on their best behavior in front of children, hoping that the kids would learn to embrace positive traits and reject negative traits so they would be 더 많이 positive people. They cared 더 많이 about well-roundedness, being modest...

Okay, so I have come across a lot of criticism against Merida that she is childish, rude, reckless, selfish and what not. But since she's my 2nd 가장 좋아하는 princess, i'd like to put up a case in her favor for people to consider and see her in better light. I have tried to dissect the movie scenes, probed into possible perspective on various minor details that may have been overlooked.

Why she isn't sophisticated as others:
She no doubt loves both her mother and father, but Merida takes off a part of feisty, loud and unapologetically honest side from her father. She loves to fight with him, laughing...

The saddest moments from DP 영화 that made me cry and most often they still do. Some are close to 심장 while some are so well enacted and animated that i'm moved 의해 the simplicity of emotions.

13. 3 good 요정 put the entire kingdom to sleep:
Despite their best of efforts, they lose Aurora to the spell and the only way to make things work is to put the entire kingdom to sleep, waking only when she awakens. It makes me sad to see them blame themselves for this loss. It doesn't make me cry though, but yes, it puts me in a sad mood.

So I've been 읽기 that the "Prettiest Princess" ranking is sort of like a right of passage 기사 that all of the 팬 here on 팬팝 do so I figured it was time for my own. Instead of just doing a physical beauty ranking, I wanted to do an 사무용 겉옷, 전반적인 beauty ranking instead. I personally see ranking women based only on their physical beauty as objectifying them so I am kind of confused that it's not looked at that way here on fanpop? (Not saying this to judge 또는 condone others but just out of genuine curiosity and confusion considering the way some 팬 have reacted to perceived objectification...

Brave: The 2nd Sunrise
I may not be a big 팬 of Brave, but this scene is sad, when I first saw this movie in the cinemas I cried during this scene and I still find this scene to be quite sad

If any of 당신 are familiar with character stylization 또는 really art in general 당신 might like this article. I'm talking about character stylization in the sense that when the artist is also the author of the character's personality and has written out their every thought in simply the way they are designed. This can also be called "interpreted art" as anyone can perceive it differently, but a common factor still remains that everyone agrees on. BASICALLY I'm going to "guess" what the princess' personality is like based on the way she's drawn, see what the general consensus is on her personality...

This song reminds me of the scene in the woods after she's been scared 의해 the dark shadowed shapes of the trees. When she asks the 동물 what they would do and starts 노래 With a Smile and a Song. Well this be an alternative song 또는 whilst she' 노래 she could be imagining her favourite things. I can also Snow White 노래 this. It does require a positive sounding vocal so it makes sense.

Since this section has been very inactive lately I decided to fresh it up 의해 글쓰기 another article, about my 가장 좋아하는 디즈니 Princesses, hope you'll like this 기사 :)

13. Merida

She's the only 디즈니 Princess that I don't like at all, but I don't dislike her either, I feel neutral towards her. The main reason might sound weird, but it's mainly because I don't think she fits in the 디즈니 Princess lineup, to be perfectly honest I would appreciate her character 더 많이 if she wasn't an official 디즈니 Princess. Besides that there's nothing wrong about her character except her temper, she's...
