PrincessAyeka12 Having said that, I also love the outfit worn at the very end of the movie. And in the sequels I love, her light purple bedlah (Trying to convince other fans that they're wrong and I'm right is really hard - but I still stand strong, that this outfit isn't the same as the one at the end of the first film, for start this one is lavender purple in light form, not dark purple like the other one) and her pink sunset one in King of thieves. I love long sleeves so that's another reason why. I know you're not going to agree laylastepford, I just wanted to add this because I'm neutral about Princess costumes, if something in my favourite colours comes along, no matter what it looks like I'll just love it.

This bothers me the most because princesses are going to be idolized by young girls and become their role models so they will naturally want to emulate them. incisron I agree with this article. I didn't like Jasmine that much, except in the "Out of thin air" song in the sweet third movie (wish it was better animated though) and except the few charming moments she had and her beauty. She really was quite beautiful. I also did notice Jasmine was hypocritical. Of course, its automatically ok when a woman does it. Btw, I'm Muslim. LilChicka1017 Yah I am sorry but this is completely off the mark…Here is why... (sorry it is so long but it had to be responded too in detail) 1.) Her dressing unlike a princess is intentional to show her rebellious spirit and is a form of her empowerment. It is also to repesent she isn't your everage princess. Like a teenage girl who wears miniskirts and tube tops. It makes her feel empowered and rebellious. Same same. This is NOT a mistake by the animators. 2.) This again is an atribute to her personality that she is not just some princess in a tower waiting on a boy. Also, she went out completely covered not in anything promiscuous. She probably had every intention of coming back after seeing the life of the average person in the market. 3.) She (like the stories) is a bit cocky and she never really saw Jafar as a true threat. 4.) This line actually states the opposite. She values herself and refuses suitors because she is more than a trophy wife. She knows the people interested in her are only there for her looks and wealth. This again is why she is so rebellious. She isn’t a prize to be won, she isn’t an object to be talked about like someone will get her or say she is suitable. She finds the culture disgusting and hates the idea of being someone's prize(a material item to be owned). To call a woman a prize is part of the patriarchy she hates, where women are pretty and do as they're told. Jasmine is thrilled and on a rush (or high) by the charming poor man who saved her and went on a daring escape with her. This is something that is new and exciting and again, this contributes to her rebellious personality. She has romanticized something more beyond palace walls and hat happens her first day? Some stranger risks his life for her. This act is a mixture of her being naive and rebellious. 5.)This is not a matter of her being spoiled but locked up. It is to show that even the ones who are better off can still have troubles. She thinks there is something more and better because she was never exposed to her people's situation. There are plenty of instances of “The grass is always greener” from both the poor and wealthy. For Aladdin he wants to be on the other side of the palace walls so he never has to want. For Jasmine she wants to by on the other side of the palace walls where (at least to her) it is more free and she can have some anonymity where she has a chance at finding happiness with no strings attached. And when you get paraded around like a piece of meat to multiple men I am sure over time you get bored, frustrated and incidentally closed off to the idea that any of them are different or worth any real effort. 6./7.) Her mother was not around to teach her and we don’t see any women around who appear to be there as a mother figure, no maids or nanny types anywhere. This again goes straight back to her being a young rebel who is tired and frustrated. She feels trapped in the walls of the palace and over time she doesn’t really want to put up with anything.. Especially because she has been through the charade before. Her interactions with Aladdin stem from the fact that he disrespected her by coming to her window. (You talk about how it is improper for her but stand up for him.) She was offended how he talked about her then he deliberately went against her wishes and intruded into her bedroom balcony. This only further angered her (as it should, objectively that is fairly creepy what he did). He could have waited for her to cool off then come back in a couple days or a week. This would have shown his true interest by not giving up on her and ultimately if he kept coming back it would have eventually won her over. Because if she were this “prize” they wanted so much they would have been willing to come back and show true interest, none of them could do that. Instead of going the right way about it, he overstepped his boundaries and then told her how he liked that she was pretty and had money. The 2 things she is used to being wanted for. So she sees him as just any other suitor. But he really put himself in that position. 8.) Again, her father believed in love and he wanted her to have a decent man who could love her, but she clearly has been around multiple suitors who don’t agree. They have political and self interests, you deal with enough you become jaded and they all begin to be the same so what is the point of trying? Any girl can relate to this!! It is equivalent to modern dating how it’s so frustrating because it seem like nobody worth your time is out there. She challenges the suitors by having opinions and be strong willed and if thy don’t like that they leave. Over time she became more devious in how she dealt with them but if the truly wanted her they would come back but because they never do they ultimately fail her test. You see her watching Ali has comes in with his parade and she doesn’t look angry or annoyed a new suitor is there but more charmed by him. This is the appearance of someone who is optimistic about a new prince but assumes he will turn out like the rest who have been pompous jerks. We can only assume she is this way with other princes (except the one we see prior who is clearly a douche and doesn’t care to hide it.) 9.) She doesn’t know that they are one in the same, once she realizes they are the same guy she likes him. When Aladdin was Ali he acted different. He was showboating and boasting and talking completely different. Talking how he thought a prince would but that is what she hates. So when she first comes out he sound like every Tom Dick and Harry. He completely changed who he was. This is also the entire point of the movie, don’t change for others. She only cares for him when he is himself. Imagine if you had the same carbon copy type of guy reintroduced to you over and over, you didn’t like the first one and you will grow to get more annoyed by each one to tries to win you as if you are some trophy. 10.) WELL DUH SHE GOT UPSET! He insulted her intelligence by thinking she wouldn’t figure out his ruse as well as lying to her. These are things a normal healthy person would be upset about about! This doesn’t make her hypocrite but consistent with hating jerks who don’t show her with respect. She never truly pretended to be anything. She only tried to conceal her identity while outside of the palace so she wouldn’t get caught. She was protecting herself. The second she got in trouble she immediately tried to explain that she was the Princess but she was not believed. She tried to be honest from the beginning but he was not. Her being rude to Ali was because how he was talking about her, especially since they never met. Then when she realized it was Aladdin she wasn’t rude as much as she was upset/angered which only happens if you care about that person. His lie was also not so innocent, it was to deceive her to win her over. Then he lies to her again to cover up being a street rat. And to your last point she isn’t a muslim or an arab, she is Chinese. The story of Aladdin is told through the merchant who is trying to sell you a lamp. This is also how it is in the books. The merchant who is ignorant of chinese culture fills in what he can with his knowledge of his own turkish environment/heritage. The story is spot on because he doesn’t know how to tell a traditional chinese story or anything beyond the fact they have Emperors. He makes up what he can about this “faraway land” with limited knowledge. This is exactly how it is in the books(granted the stories are very different but the framing device is spot on). *There are also 2 princesses in the original story not just one. *Agrabah is also a fictional place, again it is a made up place (in the far east) by a man from the middle east trying to sell you lamp. *In the stories the merchant uses more far east terms like “Emperor” instead of “Sultan”. Their clothing and appearance is also Chinese. *Keep in mind Disney LOVED fairytales and encourage the families at home to read the source material. This message isn’t a present since his passing but these stories are meant to be a more simplified version of the loved books and encourage you to read and expand on it…. For the longest time I had no clue the entire story was a sales pitch for a lamp. But that made the story better because it turned it into something else. It made me wish I had read the books sooner!! =) You can get into accuracies left and right but the point of the story is that it isn’t accurate! He doesn’t travel and he knows nothing about anything beyond his homeland. This is a genius framing device because it allows for colorful characters and inaccurate information to be told beautifully. That is the genius of it all. Making it an American adaption and putting in American culture references fits the device of the story as well. A story of a far away land by someone not from there who includes their own culture..Beautifully done.

In the US there is no encouragement or victim blaming with rape. There are laws in place to punish rapists and safe spaces where victims can go to get help. Remember when those high school football players raped that girl and articles were going on about those "poor boys" whose careers were jeopardized.
