Let's face it: we live in a man's world. If 당신 don't think that's true, slap yourself and take a look at the real world. Under Iranian Islamic law, if a woman isn't a virgin when she's married, she gets 100 lashes. Harsh. Men are even paid 더 많이 than women on average, and that's in the United States.
Now, I am a feminist. Before anyone throws something at me, I want to say that people are misconstruing feminism, and it's making me sick. Feminism isn't about burning bras 또는 hating men, it's about equality. It's about a world where no gender is oppressed. And 디즈니 can have a big part in that.
How? Think about it. What do most little girls want to be when they grow up? A princess. And where do they learn that? Disney. Now, of course that little girl will have her dreams crushed, but the time she spent waiting for Prince Charming could have been used doing something useful. Take it from Tiana, "Fairytales can come true, 당신 gotta make 'em happen, it all depends on you." What world will we be in if half the population, scratch that, ALL of the population, views women as dames to be rescued?
Well, gone are the damsel in distress classic princesses. Here is a new age, where the 디즈니 god has granted us a warrior princess, a working princess, and the idea that true 사랑 can actually be found between sisters, not 연인들 (gasp! Who'd have thunk?)
디즈니 still has a long way to go, though. Girls may realize that they create their own path, but they also need to realize that there is no one beauty standard.
Girls don't need waists smaller then their heads to be beautiful, 또는 eyes that take up half their face, 또는 long, flowing hair. And nearly every princess has these attributes.
How about a chunky princess, with womanly curves that don't come from not having a ribcage? How about a princess with a pixie cut? And especially (though this will be in the far, far, future) a gay princess?
As 당신 can see, 디즈니 is slowly regaining my respect. But they still have a long way to go.
