You could *almost* say that also about Little Women (1993). The movie counts out some major chunks out of the book .. but they tend to be episodes that I don't like (i.e. Everything that has to do with Meg post-wedding.)

I love this book and movie! the book was awesome... but the movie was spot on! Lord of the Rings was the runner-up for me though.

Could. Not. Stand. The GONE WITH THE WIND movie... awful. Of course, THE PRINCESS BRIDE movie is so classic. "He's only mostly dead."

...though they're all good. I had a hard time picking a film, until I really thought about the "Classic" adjective. "L.A. Confidential" (which is a fantastic movie, and far, far better than the book) doesn't qualify; it's not old enough to be a "classic".

It was so amazingly well-adapted, which is hard to do with books and movies.

Doesn't get much better than that.

And Elijah Wood's piercing blue eyes MAKE him Frodo.

Echoes picked Little Women (1993):
I have to pick Little Women. It is just one of the best historical movies that I have ever seen. This is like, one of Kirsten Dunst's first movies, and she was so good as Young Amy. I will forevermore think of Susan Sarandon as Marmee; she just fit the role so perfectly. And this is the only Winona Ryder movie I have ever seen, but she was SUPERB as Jo. And Clare Danes... I LOVED her as Juliet in Baz Lurhman's movie 'Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet', and she was just as good, perhaps better, as Beth. In fact, the whole cast was so awsome and believable. I LOVE the book, and this movie really captured the essence of it.

I would have LOVED to have picked The Princess Bride, but unfourtunatly, I haven't seen it yet :(

The Lord of the rings is an amazing story from book to movies but I feel the newer one is going to be The Twilight series! I loved reading all four books so far and hope more will come!!! But I have also loved seeing it come to life in the theaters!!!

And Harry Potter 2nd.
I hated The Princess Bride I don't even know why I watch it till the end. And I found the first The Lord of the Rings movie really boring (the 3rd was good though).

I don't think you should count books that came out this century as classics just yet.
