Whether or not there's an explanation, it's a show glitch because they should have addressed it. It's always annoyed me that they never even mention it.

I don't think so, because I was waiting all through Season 6 for someone to say something about it, and no one ever did.

"According to slayer law, she was already dead, so she couldn't die again" ... I think this is what everyone assumed when in season six no one mentioned it ... but then why is it that in season seven the potentials continually say things along the lines of "So in order for one of us to become the slayer ... Buffy would have to die."

did the potentials know about Buffy's multiple deaths? I can't remember it's been a while since I saw s7. If they didn't then those comments would make sense coming from the potentials.

Even if they did you could say it was just the potentials shaky knowledge of the Slayer lore (or possibly the show screwed up and I'm too much of a fan to stop trying to rationalise it lol)

Excellent point, SpanksU! I just think they should have addressed the issue at some point in the show. And I'm actually deeply surprised that they never did. The writers are so good at their jobs, why didn't one of them think that the fans would want to know?

i thought it was becuase no one knew she was dead other than the core scoobies
and the buffy bot was around, so everyone thought she was still alive
...s'just a guess :P ♥

@claire-aka-bob, When a slayer is chosen, it's mystical. It has nothing to do with anyone knowing whether or not she died. The first time, Buffy was only dead for a minute or so, but a new slayer was instantly called. And no one can predict who the knew slayer will be.

This is the only remotely logical choice, but I agree in S7 they acted like if Buffy died another Slayer would be called. Probably one of the inconsistencies of the show that bugged me the most.

The Slayer line moved to Faith so when Faith died a new Slayer would be called. The Potentials saying that Buffy needed to die could be for one of two reasons:1 The Scoobies didnt want to freak the potentials out by telling them Buffy died twice
2 The writers screwed up

I simply believe that Buffy didn't share with the Potentials' the fact that she has already died. I believe that she is the Slayer in that she has all of the abilities but the line runs with Faith. The brining of Buffy back did interfer with the Slayer line in that it disruped the powers of good and evil. The White Hats have one powerful player too many with Buffy being back.

Actually, it can sort of be thought of as thermogenesus. It's like the ultimate hitchhiker.

I am thinking that there is a problem with this logic.

There was a point when all the Potentials are in the basement talking about the Slayer. Bring on the Night or Never Leave Me. I can't remember. But Vi says she heard there were two Slayers sometime and they all acted like that was absurd. So they can't have known about Buffy dying. And that's when they were talking about Buffy having to die. It's a glitch, but one they didn't ignore, just probably didn't care about.

It is explained in one of the season 7 episodes (can't remember which one, sorry). When Buffy died, the Slayer line passed onto Kendra and then Faith. It ignored Buffy and wasn't aware of her being revived. Only Faith's death would have awoken a Potential, before Willow's spell.
